Johnny Rodriguez the Salon Blog

If the bristles of your hairbrush are lost in a sea of hair, it is time to clean it. Product buildup, dead skin cells, and loose hair create an unappealing hairbrush and do more damage than good to freshly washed hair.

It is important to clean your hairbrushes since you do not want the shed hair to prevent the brush from performing effectively and serving its intended purpose. Below are what you need to know about how to clean a hairbrush with a simple, four-step tutorial.

What is this Weird, Dusty Stuff in My Brush?

The stuff in your brush is not dust. It consists of dead skin cells, scalp oil, broken hair clumps, and product residue. On the material within the brush, different bacteria and fungi can multiply. Those with scalp problems such as dandruff or seborrhea dermatitis may experience exacerbations due to the dusty stuff.

How Often Do I Need To Clean My Brush?

You spend time and work styling your hair, and it deserves a spotless hairbrush. However, if the bristles are buried in a tangle of shed hair, your brush is less effective, and styling may be difficult.

Regularly remove hair from your hairbrush to prevent buildup on the brush. Johnny Rodriguez The Salon ® suggests cleaning your brush once each month or more frequently if you have more accumulation or shed a lot.

How to Clean a Hairbrush

Whether your brush is made of wood or plastic, the cleaning process involves similar processes with minor variations.

What Tools Do I Need?

  1.  Bowl
  2.  Warm water
  3.  Shampoo
  4.  Toothbrush (optional)
  5.  Cotton swab
  6.  Towel

Remove the hair

Remove any hair that has built up on your hairbrush. You can pull the hair away with your fingers or a comb. You can also use scissors to cut out any strands that have latched on and are difficult to remove.

Soak the Brush

Fill a bowl or sink with warm water, then add a small amount of shampoo or dish soap. Repeatedly pass the brush through the solution. Allow the hairbrush to soak in the water for a while. The back-and-forth motion removes dead skin cells and debris from the brush's bristles. Your sink will likely become soiled during this action.

Scrub and Pick

After soaking your brush, removing the majority of gross particles should be easy. Scrub with a toothbrush or your fingertips between the bristles and the brush's base. Submerge the brush in water as needed. You may need your fingers to remove tenacious grime on individual strands.

Rinse and Dry

Refill the bowl with clean, warm water, and rotate the head of the hairbrush in the water to rinse. Before using the brush again, place it on a clean towel with the bristles facing down and let it dry completely. Allow the brush to dry well before using it. Ventilated brushes without a cushioned base dry considerably fast.

You may have read the instructions for cleaning a hairbrush with a dryer sheet. While dryer sheets are wonderful for controlling static, shampoo and water are ideal for thoroughly cleaning a hairbrush and removing dusty buildup.

How to Clean Your Flat Iron

Flat irons will inevitably accumulate residue, given the heat protective agents and styling products used to protect your hair against the high temperatures of hair straighteners. Fortunately, it is simple to clean your hair straightener with proper guidance. This article guides you on how to clean your flat iron effectively.

Why You Should Clean Your Flat Iron

Lack of sanitation with straighteners and flat irons causes more damage than imagined. In addition, neglecting to clean your straightener and flat irons can cause dragging, damaging your hair, and shortening your straightener's life.

Inadequate hair straighteners not only produce poor results but also cause hair damage. For example, a straightener that drags and tugs on hair causes breakage, frizz, and stray hairs.

What You'll Need

You need the following items while cleaning your flat iron:

  • Cotton balls

  •  Rubbing alcohol

  • A warm damp cloth

How to Clean Your Flat Iron

  • Plug your iron in and activate it.

Plug up your flat iron, set it to its lowest heat setting, and allow it to warm up for a few minutes. The heat will help release any buildup or filth on the iron, making it easy to clean.

  • Unplug and turn off your iron.

Allow your flat iron to cool for approximately 5 minutes on a heat-resistant mat or hand towel after turning it off and unplugging it. Notably, do not place your flat iron on the edge of the sink or at the counter directly, as it could scorch these surfaces.

  • Use a moist cloth or paper towel to clean the flat iron.

Hold an inch above the flat iron while it is still cooling to evaluate if it has cooled enough to touch safely. Warm a washcloth or paper towel with water once the surface feels somewhat warm to the touch. Complete the iron's basic cleaning by wiping each surface with alcohol.

  • Deep Clean With Water and Rubbing Alcohol

For thorough cleaning, soak cotton balls in water and rub them gently on the plate. Follow the rounds soaked in water with rounds soaked in rubbing alcohol. If there are difficult-to-reach areas, try a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol.

Again, avoid excessive scrubbing to prevent harming the titanium plates. This thorough cleaning is optional each time you clean your flat iron. You only need to perform this step when there is a great deal of debris and buildup.

  • Allow Iron to Air-Dry

The final step is to allow the flat iron to air-dry before using it again.

  • Get a Professional Cleaning Solution If You Have Never Cleaned a Flat Iron Before.

You can find numerous cleaning products designed exclusively for hairstyling instruments in beauty supply stores. If you have been using your flat iron for a long and it needs cleaning, get a professional to clean it thoroughly. Doing so avoids possible damage.

How Often To Clean Your Flat Iron

The greater the accumulation on the flat iron, the less evenly the plates will heat and the more difficult it will be to style your hair. Therefore, if you use your flat iron daily, it is recommended to clean it at least once per week with a soft cloth. No soaps, sprays, or other cleaning products are required when routinely cleaning a flat iron.

At Johnny Rodriguez The Salon®, we believe everyone should love their hair. Your love for your hair is why we offer premier hair care services, including cuts, color, treatments, balayage, and reverse balayage. If you've ever considered a reverse balayage, are wondering what it is, or want to know the difference between a reverse balayage and a traditional balayage, keep reading.

What Is Reverse Balayage?

A reverse balayage is a hair coloring technique that stylists can perform to add depth and visual interest to your hair. Your stylist will add depth back into your roots by using a darker shade and hand painting it onto your hair, letting your hair's natural highlights and any added highlights pop more, creating a beautiful effect that makes your blonde strands stand out. The reverse balayage is a subtle effect that looks great with your naturally lighter hair, allowing you to mix up your look without making drastic changes to your hair.

Your reverse balayage will require touch-ups every 6-8 weeks. Touch-ups are most important if the color you and your stylist choose for your reverse balayage is much darker than your natural shade. Discuss with your stylist how often you should get a touch-up, and schedule them in advance, so you don't miss one.

Reverse Balayage vs. Balayage

Both the balayage and reverse balayage are designed to create a multidimensional look to the hair, but they achieve this goal differently. A balayage can add lighter strands to create highlights and visual interest for people with darker hair colors. Meanwhile, someone with a naturally lighter hair color may decide to get a reverse balayage, which adds some darkness and depth back into the hair to achieve a similar effect.

Which type of balayage you get will usually depend on your natural hair color and what effect you are trying to achieve. Both are low-maintenance styles, making them a great option for people just starting to experiment with having their hair colored.

How Does Balayage Differ From Traditional Hair Color?

A balayage offers a more subtle effect and less maintenance than traditional hair color. While traditional hair color may involve lightening and coloring all of your hair, a balayage involves lightening specific strands to give your hair a multidimensional appearance. A balayage gives your strands a sun-kissed appearance and helps to illuminate your face. The balayage and reverse balayage are lower maintenance than traditional hair color, so they may be preferred by those who don't have time in their schedule for frequent touch-ups.

Adding a hair mask to your weekly hair care routine can provide a quick boost to its overall appearance. Here is an overview of what hair masks are, how they work, and why choosing Johnny Rodriguez The Salon ® is your best choice for making hair masks part of a top-notch hair care regimen in the Dallas or Plano areas!

What Is a Hair Mask?

A hair mask is a type of hair treatment that quickly provides more nutrients and a higher level of hydration than most shampoos and conditioners. This higher hydration level in a quality hair mask meets the most significant needs of your hair to significantly improve the feel and appearance of your hair with as little as one use.

Quickly giving your hair a large amount of oils, butters, and other ingredients can help combat the negative effects of heat products, other styling products, tight hairstyles, cold weather, or other sources of damage. Hair masks are used by coating your hair with the product, leaving it on for several minutes, and rinsing it.

How Often Should You Use a Hair Mask?

Most people should use a hair mask once per week. Using a hair mask two or three times per week provides more benefits, especially if your hair is dry or damaged, but they generally should not be used more than three times per week. Using them less frequently is a good practice, too, if your hair absorbs too much moisture, which can cause it to become damaged or excessively oily.

How Long Should You Leave a Hair Mask on Your Hair?

Most hair masks should be left on your hair for approximately three to five minutes. They can often be left on for longer if applied to dry, dehydrated hair, and the package of the specific hair mask you choose will generally provide a more accurate estimate. Starting with dry hair is a must if you plan to leave your hair mask on longer than the minimum recommendation to protect your hair.

Can You Leave a Hair Mask on Too Long?

Some types of hair masks can damage your hair if left on too long, especially if applied to wet hair. Doing so can result in your hair absorbing more moisture than intended, weakening your hair and making it more likely to break or otherwise become damaged. For this reason, most types of hair masks should never be left on for longer than 15-20 minutes.

Why Should You Use a Hair Mask?

Hair masks provide the hydration and nutrients your hair needs to increase its strength, shine, and overall health. A hair mask that is a good fit for the unique needs of your hair can drastically reduce frizziness, weakness, and dry or damaged hair to give your hair the extra boost it needs to look and feel its best. Choosing a hair mask in your favorite scent can even help to reduce stress while taking care of your hair.

Tips to Add Volume to Fine Hair

If you have been dreaming of voluminous hair but find yourself struggling with thin locks, we know how you feel. Luckily, all hope is not lost. There are a number of options available for your hair to help increase volume and achieve the hair you've been dreaming of. Learn more about how to add volume to your locks below.

Start From Within

Healthy, voluminous hair doesn't start with the products you put on it but with what you put inside your body. Foods like spinach, beans, kale, and more are all good sources of iron, biotin, and zinc. These nutrients help build strong, healthy hair, which in turn will give you more volume. Biotin can also be found in bananas, peanuts, salmon, and eggs. Don't forget to include enough protein in your diet and drink plenty of water to give your entire body a health boost.

Give Your Roots a Spa Day

Your hair deserves special treatment to soften and strengthen existing strands and promote the growth of new ones. Scalp massages can increase circulation and encourage hair growth, with the potential to make your hair thicker over time. Other hair treatments, such as bond-building treatments and split end correction, can allow your hair to grow long and luscious, making it appear fuller.

Choose Products Made for Your Hair

Just like your skin, your hair has its own type. Whether thin or thick, dry or oily, coarse or smooth, making sure you're using products designed for your hair type can do a world of good for your hair. Look for products aimed at moisturizing and volumizing to achieve a soft, full look. Browse our selection of hair products to find stylist-approved products for your hair type.

Switch-up Your Style

Sometimes the right cut and style can go a long way toward increasing your volume. Discuss your hair goals with your stylist so you can work together to find the best style for your needs. Consider trying a new haircut or adding extensions to increase volume.

Flip it and reverse it

Flip your head upside down when drying your hair to add more volume. Drying your hair upside down will cause your roots to dry up instead of flat against your head. When your hair is dry, flip your head back up to see the increase in volume. When it comes to styling bangs, don't use this method, or you may find that they may stick up too much.

Change your part

One of the fastest ways to increase hair volume instantly is to change the placement of your hair's part. Your natural part also tends to be where your hair lies the flattest, so moving your part even slightly can increase the volume on the top of your head.

Remember that adding noticeable volume to your hair doesn't happen overnight. It takes a good diet, the right products, and the right style to see changes in your hair. All the work you put in will be worth it when you see how beautiful your hair will become.

While it is important to regularly maintain colored hair, maintaining your natural hair is just as important. Having great-looking natural hair is not as hard as you might think, but it doesn't just happen overnight. Keep reading to learn the best ways to care for your natural hair.

How to Maintain Your Natural Hair

Maintaining your natural hair mainly comes down to preventing breakage. In order to do this, it is important to keep your hair moisturized and avoid styles that can damage your strands. Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you want luscious, natural locks.

Keep Your Scalp Clean

An important part of maintaining your natural hair is keeping your scalp clean. This doesn't mean you'll need to wash your hair daily (in fact, doing so can lead to dryness), but it does mean you should be washing your hair every couple of days, depending on your hair type and lifestyle. When you shampoo your hair, focus on scrubbing your scalp to exfoliate the skin.

Keep it Moisturized

Another important part of maintaining natural hair is keeping it moisturized. Regular moisturizing can help prevent dryness, which leads to breakage and split ends. Whenever you wash your hair, don't forget to use a conditioner after shampooing. Use moisturizing leave-in products designed for your hair type while your hair is damp to help lock in moisture. Consider getting regular hair treatments to moisturize and repair your strands, especially if you have long hair or your hair is dry and damaged.

Avoid Breakage

To keep your natural hair healthy:

  1. Avoid activities and styles that can lead to breakage.

  2. Limit how often you heat style your hair, and use a heat protectant when heat styling or blow-drying your hair.

  3. Wear your hair down or in gentle styles like loose braids, saving styles like high ponytails, and tight buns for special occasions.

Trim

Regular trims help maintain your natural hair by removing split ends. It is important to trim off split ends regularly, as they will continue to get worse unless they are cut off. How often you get your hair trimmed will depend on your hair type and goals, but most people should aim for a trim every 12 weeks.

Learn to Detangle

Knowing how to properly detangle your hair helps to prevent breakage and keep your hair looking good. Not only that, but regular brushing can help distribute your hair's natural oils, helping to keep it moisturized and healthy. Brush out knots and tangles starting at the ends of your hair, then make your way to your roots to avoid pulling on your hair too much. If you're dealing with uncontrollable frizz and tangles, consider getting a keratin treatment to help smooth your strands and prevent severe tangles.

Keep Your Hair Away From Your Shoulders

If you're trying to grow your hair past your shoulders, you should avoid letting the ends touch your neck and shoulders. When the ends of your hair touch your shoulders, they rub on your clothing which can lead to breakage, preventing it from growing further. During this period of growth, opt for protective styles like braids, buns, ponytails, and twists to keep it off your shoulders.

What if My Natural Hair is Damaged?

If your natural hair is damaged, it's time to get serious about hair treatments. At Johnny Rodriguez, we offer salon hair treatments designed to nourish, restore, and protect dry, thin, or damaged hair. Salon hair treatments work to repair your damaged hair and prevent future damage, allowing you to have beautiful natural hair, no matter what hair type or lifestyle you have.

For those of us who aren’t born with naturally long, gorgeous eyelashes, mascara and false lashes used to be our only options. But now, professional lash extensions make it possible to add length, volume, and even curl, giving you stunning lashes that require virtually no effort.

One of the most common questions our lash artists receive is, “How long do lash extensions last?” There are a few factors that can affect the answer, and proper lash extension aftercare makes a world of difference. With just a little TLC, you can keep them looking fresh and full for longer.

Why is Eyelash Extension Aftercare important?

There are three major reasons to take care of lash extensions properly:

  1. Your lash health is at stake. You might have heard that extensions can damage natural lashes. But actually, most issues with lash health are due to poor aftercare (or an unskilled technician).

  2. Properly cared-for lash extensions look better for longer. Eyelash extensions do have to be filled regularly. However, taking care of lash extensions will keep them looking fabulous for much longer.

  3. You can save time and money. When you can maximize lash retention, you’ll be able to stretch the time between fill appointments. Plus, you won’t necessarily need full sets as often, and your appointments will be shorter and cost less in general. You’ll also be able to avoid any unexpected charges or extended appointment times.

So, how do you take care of eyelash extensions? This guide will tell you everything you need to know.

First, Know What to Expect from Your Lash Extensions

If you’re an eyelash extension first-timer, it’s helpful to know exactly what to expect in terms of the longevity of eyelash extensions. Depending on the type of lash extensions you choose, as well as your preferred look, you may be able to go more or less time between fills. The thicker, more voluminous styles usually last a little bit longer, since they contain more lashes.

Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® offers four types of lash extensions in Plano and Dallas, each one providing a specific look:

  • Classic lashes are ideal if you want a natural look. One extension is attached to each eyelash, making your eyes look more open and adding subtle definition.

  • Volume lashes use a full, handmade fan of lashes that use two or more extensions. The result is a luxuriously full lash line that brings the drama.

  • Hybrid lashes give you the best of both worlds, combining classic and volume for a beautiful, but understated, look.

  • Mega volume lashes are the ultimate in gorgeously thick lashes, using a full lash fan made up of six or more lash extensions.

Your lash artist will help you make an informed decision by discussing your desired outcome, lifestyle, and experience with extensions. That way, we can recommend an extension option that will best align with your expectations.

How to Take Care of Lash Extensions

Once you have your new lashes, it’s time to show them off! And of course, you should also be ready with basic lash extension aftercare instructions:

For 24 hours after your appointment

Keep your lashes dry, and skip any workouts or activities that would cause you to sweat. Hot, steamy showers are a no-no, as are saunas and spas. Stay away from oil-based products on or near your eyes, and do your best not to touch your lashes. Try to sleep on your back or side, rather than on your stomach.

After the first 24 hours

Once the 24-hour mark passes, your lashes are technically waterproof. However, it’s a good idea to minimize contact with water and steam as much as possible – mainly because you’re more likely to rub your eyes if your lashes get wet.

Here are a few other dos and don’ts:

  • DO make sure you know how to clean eyelash extensions and stick to a high-quality foaming lash cleanser (your lash technician can recommend one if needed).

  • DO use oil-free products on your face, especially when it comes to cleansers and eye makeup removers.

  • DO schedule your fill appointments regularly, so your lashes will always look well-kept.

  • DON’T play with, pull, or pick at your lashes.

  • DON’T use oil-based or waterproof mascara on lash extensions. Ideally, avoid mascara in general – trust us, you won’t need it!

  • DON’T attempt to remove the extensions on your own.

Keep in mind that it’s normal to lose a couple of lashes per day, so don’t panic. With or without lash extensions, our lashes naturally shed. It’s simply much more noticeable when it’s a large extension, not just your natural lash, shedding.

Usually, planning for a fill appointment every 2-4 weeks is a good guideline.

Summer is almost here, which means that you will get to enjoy the outdoors but also that your hair might frizz because of the humidity.

Luckily, at Johnny Rodriguez The Salon ®, we are here to ensure your hair remains in perfect shape even in that crazy humidity. Located in Plano and Dallas, we offer top-notch services and give you tips for maintaining your hair. If you are wondering how to prepare your hair for the humidity, this blog is here to guide you.

In The Shower

A good hair care routine begins in the shower. While preparing your hair for the humidity, the first thing to do is avoid hot water while cleaning it. Additionally, use products that help repair damaged hair and keep it frizz-free.

For instance, the Color Lock and Smooth is a 2 in 1 formula containing argan oil, pure keratin, and collagen to keep your hair frizz-free. You can also use The Treat End Collection and the Bond Restore and Revive treatments by Johnny Rodriguez The Salon ® to bind and seal broken hair fibers together and mend the splits and tears.

Other ways to promote your preparedness for humidity on hair while in the shower include:

Switching to a Low pH Shampoo

Your shampoo could be the main culprit for a bad hair day. The average drugstore shampoo contains sulfates and other chemical ingredients that raise its pH levels. These shampoos strip away the natural oils, causing your hair and scalp to dry out. Your hair becomes drier and weaker, causing the parched hair shafts to swell from the humidity. A low pH-level shampoo will keep your hair frizz-free for longer.

Using a Moisturizing Conditioner

You will understand the importance of moisturized hair if you think of it like a sponge. A dry sponge will absorb any liquid thrown at it, but a soaked sponge will not absorb any more liquid. Similarly, moisturized hair will not seek water from outside even when humid, but dry hair will. Always use a moisturizing conditioner to make it well-moisturized and humidity-resistant.

Mastering your Blow Drying Technique

Most people dry their hair by blowing every droplet out of their hair. They spend too much time blow drying their hair and making it worse by using heat from close range. The recommended way is to use a brush while directing hot airflow downwards. The brush can smooth out the cuticles and reconstruct the hair to a more polished finish.

Behind the Brush

Another secret that will help you overcome the Texas humidity is your choice of brush and how you use it. You should invest in high-performing brushes if you love your hair. For instance, you will need a wet brush when your hair is not completely dry. You will also need to use a heat protectant when using a blow-dryer or a hot tool. You can use spray, oil, or even crème or turn down the heat of your styling tools.

On the Go and Beyond

Humidity should not restrain you from going outdoors because of your hair. You can use hairspray or balm to cover your hair with a protective barrier against moisture.

Try an Anti-Frizz Balm

An excellent example of a styling product that will help you beat the Texas humidity is an anti-frizz balm. It adds stability to your hair in the crazy humidity. The balm can calm unpredictable and stubborn hair.

Try a Keratin Treatment

Keratin treatment rejuvenates the hair from the inside out, keeping it hydrated. During the humid period, it will help you enjoy smooth, manageable, and frizz-free hair. This treatment is worth every penny and will help you maintain your hair's natural curl and volume, especially when done at Johnny Rodriguez The Salon ®.

Anyone with curly or wavy hair can attest to the difficulty behind taming those wild locks. A common problem for wavy hair types is drying without damaging your hair;  blow dryer diffusers help you reduce the frizz without disturbing the pattern of your waves. A hair diffuser or hairdryer diffuser is an attachment on your blow dryer that disperses its airflow and dries your hair gently, maintaining the wave pattern and creating more hair volume.

Styling and maintaining challenging hair can be an intimidating task, and while you can learn how to diffuse your hair effectively, many choose to leave it to professionals. Keep reading to learn more about how the pros diffuse wavy hair in Texas.

Why use a Diffuser?

A standard blow dryer dries out your hair and straightens the waves. However, when using the best diffuser for curly hair, you have to be careful to use it correctly. You may have gotten the best diffuser for curly hair, but you won't get the desired results if you misuse it. Benefits of using a hairdryer diffuser include:

  • Minimal Heat Damage On Hair

Diffusing disperses heat over a large hair area instead of concentrating it in one place.

  • Volume and Faster Drying Time

Using the best diffuser for curly hair gives your hair added volume. A diffuser diffuses or disperses air and prevents frizz by protecting the hair cuticles.

Difference Between Wavy and Curly Hair When Diffusing

Curly hair is kinky and has close and tight curls like a spring. Wavy hair is a cross between curly and straight hair. Wavy hair has zig-zag patterns and is mostly softer than curly hair.

How to Diffuse Wavy Hair

Diffusing wavy hair maintains the waves without drying out your hair, and your hairstylist will ensure your hair is thoroughly wet before diffusing and use any of these four diffusing methods:

Hovering: Let the diffuser hover above the hair without touching it.

Pixie Diffusing: You put a portion of your hair in the diffuser bowl before turning the dryer on. Before you take the hair out, switch the dryer off. This technique preserves the wave pattern.

Root Lift: Turn your hair upside down and massage your roots using a diffuser. This style lifts the hair away from your scalp, lifting the hair at the roots. This should be done after the hair has been mostly dried with the diffuser.

Stretch or spring: To get some bounce to your waves, plop your hair into the diffuser bowl and bob up and down towards your head. Use a good hold gel for this technique, and if you want longer waves, let them hang and hover the diffuser.

How to Diffuse Curly Hair

Professional hair stylists know all the curly hair tips, like how your curls can straighten if they try drying your curly hair with the regular blow-dry nozzle. Drying the hair with a diffuser maintains the bouncy curls and gives them volume while keeping away the frizz, so your stylist will use cold air to prevent the curls from stretching while keeping their hands away from your hair. They may also use the above four methods used on wavy hair.

What to Do Before Diffusing

Before diffusing, the first step your stylist takes is to prep your hair while washing it with quality products that nourish your hair instead of drying it and robbing its moisture. Work the styling product into the hair and ensure it's wet enough before you start diffusing. If you want a softer curl pattern, use styling cremes instead of gels. Finally, they will ensure the waves look defined when wet, as they will look the same when dry.

Wavy hair needs mousses and gels for styling and hold, so the more generous you are with the products, the better the waves will look. For your waves to look good, your hair needs to be healthy. Trim your dead ends before you diffuse, or the rest of the hair will get a nice bouncy look while the dead ends look, well, dead.

Before you head to Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® in the Dallas and Plano, check out this year's hottest short hairstyles of 2022 to narrow down what might work best for your hair.

The Biggest Haircut Trends You'll Be Seeing in 2022

This year, it's all about chopping off that long hair... that is, if you're brave enough to try one of these short hairstyles 2022. Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® is helping women find their faces by creating short, fun hairstyles that leave them feeling fresh, young, and ready to take on the world.

Textured Layers For Fine Hair

If you feel like your fine hair is falling flat, try adding some layers. Adding layered texture starting midway down the hair helps you build up volume and create the illusion that your hair is thicker and fuller. A few minutes with a wide-barreled curling wand and some volumizing product in the morning, and you'll be looking amazing all day.

Big Hair Is Back

Short styles are in, but there are still plenty of trends you can follow if you prefer to keep your hair's length. Retro hairstyles are back, and that includes hair up to the sky. Remember the popular beehive of the '60s? It's back and ready to rock in 2022. A blunt cut and straight hair look best for this type of style. Moisturized hair is the key, so start with a hair mask, then dry straight, adding volumizing products at the roots. Sleek it back with a headband, and you'll look like you just stepped out of "The Mod Squad." Add some versatility to it with curtain bangs that add depth but are long enough to pull back and create variety.

Mid-Length Bobs Are Versatile

Want something that's not too short but not too long? The '90s loved the mid-length bob, and the 2020s are realizing just how versatile the style is. Need proof? Just check out Kourtney Kardashian's latest cut and style. The key to the mid-length bob is to style it properly. You'll need a holding spray to add texture and definition to your hair. Heat protectant will keep the style from getting frizzy throughout the day, and you can give yourself beachy waves with a texturizing spray. Don't be afraid to rock a center part, either. All the cool kids are!

Shags Are Short and Sassy

There are plenty of styles out there for straight and wavy hair, but curly girls need love, too, and they'll find it if they get a sassy shag. Full hair around the crown adds texture and volume, while thinner strands at the ends make hair feel less weighted down and keep curls bouncy. Popular since the '70s, this retro style is super easy to style. Add a texturizing product, twist your curls while they're still damp, blow-dry the twists, then shake them out and go.

Lob It Off

Another mid-length style that's taking the world by storm in 2022 is the blunt lob that stops right at the collarbone. Whether you wear it straight or curly, this flattering cut looks good on any face shape and with any type of hair. Just remember, volume is the key this year, so be sure to tease those roots!

Don't Forget the Accessories

Everyone needs to spice up their style with a few accessories from time to time. There are plenty of trendy options to try with your new short hairstyle in 2022 from Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® in Plano and Dallas.

  • Pearls - This year is all about timeless elegance, from pearl-adorned headbands to barrettes dressed in pearls. A pearl headband is great for the office, and a single barrette above a chignon creates a sophisticated evening look.

  • Logo Barrettes - These barrettes are big in 2022. From Gucci to Coco Chanel, showing off your favorite designers is in.

  • Butterflies -The butterfly clips of the '90s received an elegant upgrade for 2022. Sophisticated gold barrettes or even butterflies made of pearls are a beautiful way to show off your new style.

  • Scarves - Scarves of all sizes, colors, and patterns are hot this year. Are you having a bad hair day? Just wrap it up and go!

Proper winter hair care can be a little different from that of warmer months. Here we'll discuss why your hair routine should change with the seasons and give you some hair health tips that are easy to incorporate into your routine.

Why Should Your Haircare Change in the Winter?

There are several factors that affect hair health in the winter. In Plano and Dallas, the weather gets colder, drier, and windier during the winter months. These conditions rob your hair of the moisture that keeps it healthy, leading to hair strands that are dry, frizzy, and more prone to breaking off. Proper winter haircare can help offset these issues.

5 Tips on How to Take Care of Hair in the Winter Season

Proper winter hair care doesn't need to be overly difficult. These five hair health tips are all relatively easy adjustments you can make to your routine that make a big difference in hair health.

1. Choose a Low-Maintenance Hair Color

Hair colors allow you to maintain a unique look that is personal to you, but there is no denying that the coloring process can be hard on hair. During winter, it can be an especially good idea to choose a low-maintenance hair color, such as ombre styles that blend well with the natural color that will grow out or a color change that is within a shade or two of your natural shade. This will mean fewer recolors are needed and give your hair more time for recovery between salon appointments.

Want to keep that new color looking amazing? We recommend that they book JR Signature services, (JR Signature Tint, Highlights, Bayalge, ext.). These include custom conditioning treatments with your service of choice to help moisturize, strengthen and protect hair. Plus your color will last longer and will fade less.

2. Styling Tricks (Hint: It Starts With Low-heat)

Cold weather is known to dry out hair, and overly hot styling tools can do much the same. Curling irons, hairdryers, and similar tools can be quick and convenient, but they take a toll on hair, especially when used often. Consider switching to low heat tools or going completely heat-free as part of winter care for hair. One tool recommendation is the new Steam Flat iron that uses lower heat to help reduce damage and replace traditional hot tools. You may even find that your hair health improves to the point that when summer comes around, you keep up the habit.

3. Don't Go Out With Wet Hair

Going out with wet hair isn't ideal during any time of the year, but sometimes time gets away from you, and it can be tempting to let things air dry while on the go. Unfortunately, winter conditions can create unexpected consequences to doing this. Depending on how cold it is, there is a risk of hair freezing and breaking off, which can be disastrous for your style. Even if temperatures are above freezing as they often are in Plano and Dallas, the cooler, drier air can still lead to hair that becomes frizzy and full of static upon air drying.

4. Double Up on the Hair Nourishing and Hair Moisturizing

Winter is the time to give your hair a lot of love from your favorite products. Generic hair care products often contain harmful chemicals and ingredients that dry out hair. Choosing high-quality shampoo, conditioner, and other hair products makes a world of difference in how your hair looks and feels. Consider high-end brands such as Rikoko, R+Co, Oribe, and the Johnny Rodriguez Signature brand that use only top-quality ingredients that are good for your hair. This is one of the hair care tips that can make the biggest difference in the look and feel of your hair.

5. Opt for Leave-In Conditioner

Even if it's not something you usually use, a good leave-in conditioner is a great product to consider adding to your routine in colder months. The Johnny Rodriguez Signature brand leave-in sprays have heat protectors and also help detangle the hair. In addition to restoring a soft texture and volume to your hair, it can help shield you against dry, cold air. This extra layer of protection helps you maintain healthy hair even if you spend a lot of time outside or do a lot of styling and coloring with your hair.

Get A Trim! Make Sure to Keep up with Salon Appointments

In addition to the hair health tips listed above, it is important to keep up with regular salon appointments. Everyday concerns such as split-ends only get worse in colder weather. Going to the salon every few weeks to trim away dry dead ends helps keep the remaining hair healthier and reduces frizziness.

For guidance, we suggest coming in for a hair trim within this schedule; four to six weeks for shorter styles and eight to ten weeks for longer hairstyles. As split ends need repair, look into our Split End Correction service.

Restore Dry, Brittle Hair with Help from Johnny Rodriguez The Salon®

Even with great home care that utilizes all of the above hair health tips, sometimes hair needs a little extra help to look its best. At Johnny Rodriguez The Salon, we want to help you keep up with good winter hair care. Contact us to schedule an appointment at our locations in Plano and Dallas.

<a href="https://www.johnnyrodriguezsalon.com/">https://www.johnnyrodriguezsalon.com/</a>How to Make Your Silver Hair Color Last Longer - Johnny Rodriguez The Salon

Vibrant hair colors from all over the rainbow are hot looks that can update a tired hairstyle instantly. One of the most stunning looks is a silver-grey hair color. Pulling off a silver color takes some effort into caring for your hair and a confident attitude. If you want to make a dramatic change to your hair, silver may be the shade that makes you shine. Investing in gorgeous hair color at the salon also requires some work on your part at home to ensure your color is long-lasting. At Johnny Rodriguez The Salon®, we can help women in Plano and Dallas find the perfect hair color that complements their style and bone structure. We can also help with aftercare steps to keep your color bold and brilliant for months after your visit.

The Best Way to Maintain Your Grey or Silver Hair Color

After spending time and money on beautiful grey hair color at the salon, you want to do everything you can at home to make sure the hue lasts. To start, you may want to hold back on the shampooing and conditioning for a bit. Silver hair color may last longer if you wash your hair a little less frequently. Aim to wash your strands once or twice a week instead of every day. Washing too frequently may fade your color or remove the necessary oils that keep your mane healthy.

It's also important to scrutinize the products you use when washing, conditioning, and styling your hair. Investing in high-quality luxury hair care products, such as Oribe, may end up saving you more money in hair color costs. The key is to look for formulas that avoid parabens, sulfates, and alcohol ingredients. These harmful ingredients may be part of drugstore shampoo and conditioning products and could strip and fade the color as well as your hair's natural moisture.

Grey hair color also benefits from moisturizing products that help replenish hair that is dry or brittle. You can try using a weekly hair mask or an extra-moisturizing leave-in conditioner when you wash your hair. Avoid products that build up residue on your hair. With a silver color, residue can quickly turn a brilliant shade of silver into a grim-looking grey that is dull. Taking care of your grey hair can help it continue to look bright and beautiful.

Why Do You Need To Protect Grey Hair Differently?

Grey hair color needs different types of care at home than other hues, like blonde, brown, red, or black. Most shades of grey are lighter than other hair colors in the spectrum, other than platinum blonde or white. Dying your hair from a darker color to a brilliant grey may also require more time and styling adjustments.

Before going grey, the first thing you may want to do is get a new haircut. People with shorter hairstyles may have more success going grey than someone with a long style. Consider getting a modern bob, a pixie, a crop, or a layered cut before you start the lightning process.

Next, going grey may take several steps of lightening to get to the right shade. In the professional hair coloring world, lightening the hair with bleach is something that could be done over several visits. Darker hair may need to gradually turn a lighter shade like grey so the hair isn't damaged by an intense bleaching session. The gradual lightening process is also a great way to slowly lighten your hair over time. This way, you could get used to the lighter color in time instead of going for a new, dramatic look all at once.

Since grey is a lighter color on the color wheel, it also may reflect light differently. When choosing certain hair care products, women in Plano and Dallas may need to be careful about the color of the formula for the specific product.

Grey hair color does best with hair care products that are shaded white, yellow, grey, silver, blue, or purple. These products can reduce the brassiness that may come with a bright grey shade and give your hair more shine.

Grey hair color may also have a higher chance of looking dry if you use the wrong products. The lengthy lightning process could remove some of the hair's moisture and have it looking brittle if you don't add moisturizing to your routine.

Different Shades of Grey Last Different Periods of Time

Silver hair color may also not last as long as other colors in the hair coloring world. Hair color may last for a certain period of time depending on several factors. Permanent hair color works by bonding to the hair's cuticle and permanently changing the structure of the hair follicle. Silver hair color is typically a permanent process that can't be washed out and won't fade after a few weeks if taken care of properly.

What does happen to permanent hair color is that it can disappear as your hair grows. When your hair grows, your natural roots will begin to show. If you have really dark hair as your natural shade, your roots can be very dramatic against a light grey hue. To combat this, colorists recommend that clients get a hair color touch-up every four to six weeks. For the average person, this can be time-consuming and expensive, but for a beautiful grey, it's worth it.

To make the most of your grey hair, you may want to talk to your colorist in Plano or Dallas to get a recommendation for the specific shade of grey that works best for your skin tone, style, and preferences. Darker shades of grey may end up lasting a little longer and may require fewer touch-ups than lighter shades. For the lightest shades of grey, you may need to schedule frequent root touch-ups to keep your color looking flawless and neat.

Besides your roots growing in, another issue with this color is that different grey shades may fade faster than others. Light grey tends to fade a little faster than darker hues, so clients should aim to use top-quality salon products that are designed to limit color fading. Clients can also opt for grey highlights or low lights to make the transition more natural and the upkeep a little less intense.

Hair extensions can be a great way to get the long, lustrous locks you’ve always wanted. But the right care is key if you want your extensions to look their best. We’ve created a short guide to proper hair extension care, so you can learn:

  • How to take care of hair extensions

  • Some basic do’s and don’ts for your new extensions

  • The differences between various types of hair extensions

At Johnny Rodriguez The Salon®, our goal is to make sure that clients at our salons in Dallas and Plano look and feel like their best selves - not just when they’re sitting in the stylist’s chair. So, we make sure our clients know how to keep their hair happy and healthy using the right care, styling, and products.

Whether you’re leaving our salon with a fresh new color, a different cut, or hair extensions, you might need to switch up your maintenance and care routines. Hair extensions, in particular, require a little extra TLC when it comes to everyday care - but the changes are easy to make and absolutely worth it.

What are the Different Types of Hair Extensions?

Before we get into how to care for hair extensions, let’s take a closer look at the most popular hair extension types. Understanding the features of each can help you make the right choice for your hair and make it easier to pick an option that suits your lifestyle and care preferences.

Wefts (hand-tied and machine-tied)

This hair extension type involves attaching individual sections of hair, called wefts, to the natural hair. Usually, wefts fall into one of two categories:

  • Hand-tied extensions: Hand-tied wefts are made by tying hair to an extension seam, then knotting it to keep it in place (all by hand). These wefts are thinner than machine-tied wefts, but they are very strong.

  • Machine-tied extensions: Weft extensions are made using a professional-grade sewing machine, which attaches the hair to the weft itself. These are heavier and denser than the hand-tied version.

Your stylist will add silicone beads to your hair, then sew the wefts to the beads to create a thin but secure bond. Choosing machine-tied vs. hand-tied extensions is a decision your stylist can help you make and one that largely depends on your existing hair type. Naturally thick, dense hair is often ideal for machine-tied extensions, while clients with thinner hair tend to prefer the results of hand-tied extensions.

Fusion

Fusion extensions use individual strands of hair made with special keratin protein bonds at one end. Using a special extension tool, the stylist heats each bond to soften it, then shapes it around existing hair and allows it to cool and harden for a durable hold.

I-Tips

I-tip extensions, like the Bellami hair extensions in Dallas and Plano at our salons, combine copper beading and silicone for a long-lasting, secure grip. With this type of hair extension, you can add considerable volume and still keep a lightweight feel.

Tape-ins

Tape-in extensions are made using medical-grade tape that securely adheres to the roots of your hair. Easy to install and remove, tape-ins are perfect for thinner hair and clients that want an incredibly natural look.

Flat-Tips

Flat-tips are a combination of I-tips and tape-ins, giving you the best of both worlds. The strand-by-strand installation gives you plenty of styling versatility,  and the extensions lie flawlessly flat for a natural look.

How To Care for Hair Extensions So They Look Gorgeous Longer

No matter which type of extension you choose, hair extension maintenance makes a world of difference in keeping your new style looking natural, beautiful, and healthy longer. Here are some basic guidelines for how to wash hair extensions and tips for drying, styling, and brushing hair extensions the right way.

How to Wash and Condition Hair Extensions

  1. Use a high-quality, paraben-free, and sulfate-free shampoo for extensions.

  2. Gently massage the hair, but do not scrub vigorously at the ends or your scalp.

  3. Keep any conditioner away from your roots if you have tape-in or fusion extensions.

  4. Sleeping with wet extensions can lead to matting, so make sure your hair has enough time to dry completely before you head to bed. Put your dry hair in a loose ponytail or loose braid to minimize tangling and matting while you sleep.

How to Dry and Style Hair Extensions

  1. Keep in mind that the more hair products you use, the more often your extensions will need to be washed. Avoid alcohol-based formulas and heavy hair sprays whenever possible.

  2. Minimize blow-drying as much as possible in order to reduce breakage and damage. Instead of blow-drying after every wash, let your hair air-dry as much as you can.

  3. If you do decide to use the blow-dryer or a heat styler, apply a quality heat protectant and use the dryer’s low-heat setting. Always point the dryer in a downwards direction to keep frizz and tangles at bay.

How to Brush Hair Extensions

  1. Brushing extensions regularly is one of the most important parts of proper care. Consistently brush your extensions throughout the day in order to avoid matting.

  2. Use only a wide-tooth comb or paddle brush for extensions.

  3. Brushing hair extensions should be done very carefully: securely hold the roots of the extensions in one hand as you brush with the other.

  4. If you have weft extensions, we recommend brushing just one weft at a time.

  5. Don’t brush hair extensions when wet. If you must, only use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb, and be extremely gentle.

Do’s and Don’ts of Hair Extension Care

  • DO keep up with regular maintenance appointments at the salon.

  • DO use high-quality hair products safe for extensions.

  • DO use sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoo.

  • DO ask your stylist about caring for your type of extensions.

  • DON’T attempt to remove your own extensions.

  • DON’T use high-heat settings on blow-dryers, hair straighteners, curling irons, etc.

  • DON’T forget to protect your extensions with a leave-in conditioner before getting in the pool or ocean.

Enhance Your Hair with Extensions in Plano and Dallas

Ultimately, one of the most important things to know about hair extensions is that the salon and stylist you choose are key. Not all extensions are created equally, so choosing wisely is the best way to achieve the beautiful results you’re hoping for.

At Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® in Dallas and Plano, we use only the highest quality hair extensions, including options from industry-leading brands like Bellami. Customer comfort, satisfaction, and hair health are of utmost concern, and providing superior products is one way we ensure the best outcome.

Newest Trends in Haircuts

Everyone was thrilled to put 2023 in the rearview mirror. As the weather warms up in 2024, we are excited to see a change. And what's the one thing people look forward to the most? A new hairstyle.

At Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® in Dallas and Plano Legacy West, our stylists stay ahead on the up-and-coming haircut trends. No matter your hair texture or style preference, we are trained and ready to show you the latest techniques and trends for your new look. If you aren't sure what you'd like to try yet, read through these styles.

Rezo Cut

This fun and beautiful cut is the brainchild of master stylist Nubia Suarez. The Rezo cut is ideal for those with curls who want to celebrate them in all their spiral bounty. It has an even length all the way around your head, effectively freeing the curls from the root while maintaining length and volume. A Rezo cut, though designed for those with natural curls, can also look great when straightened.

The Modern Mullet

The 1980s style mullet is making a resurgence in Texas in 2024. It is one of the year's biggest hair trends. You may have seen it worn recently by stars such as Rihanna and Zendaya. It features a long straight back with a face-framing fringe that suits all face shapes.

The Shag

The shag is defined not by the length but by layers. It works with or without bangs for any hair texture. It is very low maintenance and complements the head shape.

Curtain Bangs

Hello again, 1970s! The long curtain bangs are back. These low-maintenance bangs are extremely versatile and perfect for those working up to a shorter bang. They are an easy way to soften up the look of long layers without committing to a traditional bang.

The New Pixie

The fun, flirty, easy-to-maintain pixie is back with two variations for this year: very short a' la Zoe Kravitz or slightly longer like Kaia Gerber. Either gives you an instantly updated look.

Blunt, Sweeping Bob

Blunt, bouncy bobs are in vogue, but this time they have a deep sweep to differentiate them. The sweep can aim for the jawline or mid-neck, depending on your hair's texture and your style preference. The key is to have a heavy weight line around the outer perimeter of the cut with a blunt bottom.

Tight Crop

You've heard about women cutting their hair when they get rid of a partner? Well, this year, everyone is ridding themselves of the weight of the year we never wanted. One of the biggest trends is cutting it all off. The tight crop is particularly popular with those who are transitioning from relaxed to natural hair.

Tapered Cut

In and around Dallas, Texas, the short, cropped cuts with tapered sides are all the rage. It is a great transitional cut for those moving toward natural hair or when growing out their hair.

Asymmetrical Bob

Nothing shows you are a nonconformist like an asymmetrical bob. You can't help but look cool, polished, and confident when you have a shorter bob in the back than in front. If you are going for edgy, try it with one side shorter than the other. It works for all face shapes.

The Rounded Afro

For those who want to embrace their beautiful, textured curls, the rounded afro is the modern take on a classic. This cut is achieved by blowing out the hair until it is straight, then cutting it dry. Depending on your style preferences, you can even add a part.

Buzz Cut

Even more dramatic than the close crop, the buzz cut has come out in a big way this year. You may have seen Halsey sporting her brightly colored version on the 'gram, as well as Tiffany Haddish and Ruby Rose. It's easy, it's fun, it's daring, and it frees you up from styling your hair.

Chandelier Layers

If you aren't sure what to do to amp up your look, try long layers with long bangs. Chandelier layers are long at the back and graduated toward the face. The layers highlight the contour of the face and, combined with long bangs, brings out the eyes.

The Modern Rachel

One of the all-time most iconic hairstyles was the Rachel. According to Glamour, requests for the modern version of the style have gone up 179% since the reunion show was announced. This highly layered cut works best on hair cut just above the shoulders. It imparts face-framing layers with high volume.

When the weather heats up, we start making plans to combat high temperatures. We set our sprinklers to keep our lawn healthy, we program our thermostats to keep the house cool, and we have our cars checked to make sure they don't overheat. We also make changes to our personal habits, like exfoliating our dry skin, working out so we are bathing suit ready, dressing in cool and comfortable fabrics, and wearing sunscreen, so we don't burn. However, that isn't all we should be doing to prepare for the summer.

It is also important to get your hair summer-ready. It is vital to replenish the moisture that was depleted in the dry heated indoor air and protect it from the upcoming onslaught of sun, heat, saltwater, and chemicals that are common occurrences in the summertime. Heat styling tools can also exacerbate any existing damage. At Johnny Rodriguez The Salon®, we understand how critical hair hydration is to the health of your hair, so we've put together a list of hair care tips to help you keep your style fresh, healthy, and damage-free this summer.

Use the Right Shampoo

Keeping your hair from getting too dry in the summer heat starts with using the right shampoo. Not only will you find yourself washing your hair more often, but if you use the wrong shampoo, you could be depleting the precious moisture that's still left in your strands. You need a shampoo that can cleanse the strands and scalp while infusing the hair shaft with moisture. We carry only the products that meet our strict quality standards, such as R&Co, Oribe, and our own signature line.

Don't Forget the Conditioner

Summertime may be when you crave less structure and fewer things on your to-do list, but one thing you can't skimp on is the conditioner. Chlorine in pools and salt in ocean water can strip away your hair's protective barrier. That means that as your hair gets wet, it breaks more easily, leaving your hair frizzy and uneven. Applying moisture-rich conditioners from one of our recommended lines is the best way to ensure hair hydration, keep your hair healthy, and protect from harsh water and chemicals.

Your Hair Needs UV Protection, Too

We all know how critical it is to protect our skin from UV damage by wearing sunscreen. It not only prevents burns but slows signs of aging due to free radicals. What often gets overlooked in hair care tips is that hair stressed by styling tools, overly aggressive products, and chemical processes like color or straightening can be at increased risk for damage, as well. When the protective outer layer of oil on the hair shaft is compromised, it is even more important than ever to use moisturizing products with built-in UV protection.

Hair Masks Can Replenish Moisture

One of the best things about summer is diving into a cool pool on a hot day or spending an invigorating day at the beach frolicking in the waves. Unfortunately, though, that chlorination and salt water can do a number on your hair. Saltwater crystallized as it dries, and those salt crystals leach water from strands. Using protective treatments like Oribe Signature Moisture Masque or R+Co Television Perfect Hair Masque can add an extra layer of defense to keep your mane soft, shiny, and healthy while you enjoy the sun and surf.

Give Your Hair a Break From the Heat

When the temperatures rise along with the humidity, hair can frizz. What does that mean? Out comes the blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons, and other devices that apply heat directly to the strands at over 400 degrees. When you combine multiple heat styling tools with repeated passes of a straight iron to ensure you've wrangled those wayward strands into submission, you have a recipe for damage.

Hair is made from keratin proteins. Heat styling changes those proteins much like boiling solidifies egg whites. That chemical change can scorch and destroy strands. To counteract the damage and protect against further breakdown, use a serum like Rikoko Lock or a product specifically designed for air-dried hair like Oribe Matte Waves Texture Lotion so you can give your mane a much-needed break.

Protect Your Color

Your hair color can become collateral damage to the sun if you don't plan for it. Even natural hair can bleach out in the sun when the melanin is degraded. If you have colored your hair, it is at increased risk of fading. Blondes can end up brassy, brunettes can end up with orange tones, and redheads are the most susceptible to quick fading. With heat and UV rays, you can end up with unattractive, faded color and dry, damaged hair.

So what do you do? Our stylists at Johnny Rodriguez, The Salon® in Plano and Dallas, recommend a color-preserving haircare regimen. We offer several products that moisturize and protect delicate, colored strands from fading and sun damage. With color-safe shampoos and conditioners, sun-protecting masks, and protective styling products, your style can have beautifully preserved color and a soft, smooth texture. Click here to see our hair treatment options.

Change Up Your Style

When you think of summertime hairstyles, it brings to mind swingy ponytails, sleek braids, and messy topknots. Essentially, anything that keeps hair neatly out of your face and off your neck is the style of the season. Even though these styles are cute and comfortable, they can really stress your hair out.

The highest point of your braid or bun is susceptible to the most sun damage. Ponytails, braids, and topknots get repeated friction from hair ties. These styles also put constant pressure on the roots of the hair, putting you at risk of breakage or increased hair fall. Try giving your hair a break by going natural or opting for a shorter cut that doesn't require a stress-inducing 'do.

Trim the Ends

Finally, don't forget that your hair is still growing. Even if you have the length you want, those ends can take a beating in the heat. If you let split ends go too long, you can end up with frizzy, unruly, and unhealthy-looking hair. The best way to maintain your hair health is to get your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks.

By following these summer hair care tips, hair hydration should no longer be a problem for you. Just remember, summer is the time to take it easy and relax. Just keep the sunblock handy and have the right hair care products to keep your hair safe, as well. If you run out of your favorite products, we have them in stock and ready for you to pick up at either our convenient Johnny Rodriguez -- Dallas or Plano Legacy West location.

Whether your wedding day is socially distanced, virtual, or still on the horizon of a pandemic-free future, you want to look and feel your absolute best. After all, this is the day most brides have dreamt about their whole life. For others, celebrating your partnership with the person you love in front of family and friends is the day you may never have imagined could come true. Whatever your wedding looks like, Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® wants to help you make it magical with the latest trends and classic looks in wedding hair and makeup.

Bridal Hair

Modern weddings don't subscribe to any single look, but instead, the trends show that you should celebrate your individuality. Your bridal hair should reflect your dream style, whatever that looks like to you. Sometimes, however, your current cut or natural hair doesn't always fit the look you have in mind. That's where our talented stylists can transform you from everyday chic to wedding fabulous.

Style

Whether you choose a close-cropped look or long, luxurious waves, you want it to be perfect. With a combination of the right product, tools, and techniques, our stylists will ensure that your style will be close-up ready. From a shimmer in candlelight to a high gloss shine under the sun, even tightly cropped curls a' la John Legend can turn heads. For longer styles, braids and waves are the most requested looks, although classic updos are never out of style.

Color

Color is another way to insert your personality into your wedding hair look. For partners going for a sun-kissed look, partial highlights or baby lights are perfect solutions to add a subtle glow to your hair. Another recent trend in bridal hair is to echo wedding colors, either with an all-over tint or an ombre look.

Extensions

If your natural hair doesn't give you the length or volume that you envisioned for your big day, extensions can make it happen. It's perfectly normal to want to be edgy in your everyday style and classic or romantic on your wedding day. If you want to go from Ruby Rose or Pink to Ariana Grande, extensions can make it happen.

Embellishments

Our team can incorporate many embellishments into your wedding hairdo, such as:

  • Hats
  • Veils
  • Gems
  • Pearls
  • Flowers
  • Headpieces
  • Decorative clips

Bridal Makeup

Another way to put your best face forward on your special day is with wedding makeup. Like hair, there is no predominant look in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that is currently trending for bridal makeup. Instead, everyone has their own ideas for their wedding look, from soft and natural to highlighted and shimmering to Hollywood glam.

Dewey Natural

The natural look is always popular. Of course, our makeup artists will make you the best version of your natural self with makeup so subtle that only you will know what it took to look that way.

Contouring

Contouring is a way to get that sculpted look. It can minimize features you don't want to take center stage or highlight your best ones. From delicate to dramatic, contouring can give you a beautiful and sophisticated image.

Bronzed

If you want the "just stepped off the yacht" look, the bronzed look is perfect. Go for a dramatic winged eyeliner with gold-tinged eyeshadow and lips, or leave it more natural for the Cali girl look.

Bold Lips

Even if you go for a more natural look on the rest of your face, you can never go wrong with a bold lip. Our talented team can not only make your lips look perfectly kissable, but will make sure your partner isn't wearing your color after you seal your vows and your glass doesn't get the rest after the toast.

Standout Eyes

When your partner looks into your eyes to recite their vows, you want them to remember that moment for the rest of your lives. Eye makeup can highlight and enhance your entire wedding appearance. Some popular eye makeup trends in the Dallas area include:

  • Lash Lift
  • Smokey Eyes
  • Ombre Eyes
  • Gilded eyes

Have you wondered how everyone in Highland Park has such gorgeous hair? Do you find yourself filled with hair envy while strolling the sidewalks of The Shops at Legacy or having lunch at Legacy West? You can be someone that inspires head turns, too. You simply need to do what all those people with smooth, silky, show-stopping hair in Dallas and Plano do: get a Brazilian Blowout from Johnny Rodriguez The Salon®.

Are Brazilian Blowouts Bad for Your Hair?

One of the misconceptions about keratin treatments is that they have harmful ingredients that could damage the hair. The truth about most hair treatments that are meant to last for a while through shampoos and styling is that they require the use of chemicals to be effective. The Brazilian Blowout involves using a small amount of formaldehyde to allow the keratin to bond to the hair shaft. However, once the keratin is applied, the strands have an additional layer of protection.

As the name indicates, the treatment originated in Brazil. Many of the nourishing ingredients included in the treatment are native to Brazil like açai berry, Camu Camu, and annatto seed. They provide essential fatty acids and hydration, along with strengthening qualities. When the keratin and other beneficial ingredients bond to the hair shaft, it soothes the cuticle, reduces frizziness, and creates a barrier to protect against heat styling and products. The bonus is the gorgeous shine.

What Does a Brazilian Blowout Do to Your Hair?

We are lucky that the Dallas-Fort Worth area generally has relatively low humidity, but the heat that Texas is famous for can wreak havoc with our styles. When combined with heat styling, hair can become frizzy, dry, brittle, and dull. That's where the Brazilian Blowout from Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® can help.

A Brazilian Blowout is not a straightening treatment, although your wild, unruly curls may relax and become more manageable, and wavy hair may appear straighter. It is a smoothing and protecting treatment that gives a silky, luxurious texture and shine to hair. However, the Instagram-worthy results don't last forever, so you should take advantage of these Brazilian Blowout tips to extend your style:

  • Just as you would after receiving permanent straightening or curling treatments, you should not wet your hair about 72 hours after getting a keratin treatment. But if it does get wet within that period, blow-dry and straighten immediately.
  • Don't put your hair up for the first two days. Allow it to hang straight while the keratin continues to bond.
  • Do not use clips, bands, or bobby pins for three days to avoid imprints on your hair.
  • Only use salon-recommended, sodium chloride free, and chemical-free aftercare products.
  • Wait two to three weeks to color your hair.
  • Avoid swimming in chlorinated water. If you do plan to swim, apply a protective serum before you get in the water.
  • After swimming in saltwater, wash and rinse your hair thoroughly and immediately, as saltwater can erode the keratin coating on your hair.
  • Reassess your shampoo schedule. Less frequent washes mean longer-lasting results.
  • Protect strands from high UV levels and chlorinated water.
  • Sleep on silk pillowcases. Cotton causes friction that can counteract your Blowout, causing frizz.

How Long Do You Have to Wait Between Brazilian Blowouts?

Based on your styling habits, and as long as you don't use shampoos that contain sulfates and chlorine, your Brazilian Blowout should last for three to four months. When you come into Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® for your Brazilian Blowout, you can safely set up your next treatment for at least three months out.

Does Brazilian Blowout Strengthen Hair?

Many of the ingredients in the Brazilian Blowout have beneficial properties, including strengthening. Nourished, hydrated hair is naturally stronger and more resilient to environmental stresses and heat styling. When combined with the same natural proteins that make up the structure of hair and nails, your locks are more protected from heat and humidity than before.

When you are ready to quit fighting your unruly hair, it may be time for you to have a keratin treatment. Many women love their hair but hate how frizzy it can get, especially in the Texas heat and humidity. Luckily, with the creation of processes like the keratin treatment and the Brazilian Blowout came ways to control the frizziness. This allows you to feel great about your hair every time you walk out the door- no matter what the humidity percentage is! At Johnny Rodriguez The Salon®, our professional hair stylists provide both of these smoothing treatments and are here to provide you with information about both procedures so you can decide whether the Brazilian Blowout vs keratin is right for you.

Similarities Between Brazilian Blowouts and Keratin Treatments

Both the Brazilian Blowout and the keratin treatment were created in response to a dilemma faced by many women: hair that is uncontrollable. Some women feel like they have permanently unmanageable locks due to the texture of their hair. Other women experience bad hair days as a result of the weather- hello Texas summers! It can grow frustrating trying to tame your tresses into submission, especially when you are wanting to look professional at work or when you want to be able to get ready quickly for a nice night out. Even more frustrating is when all this work becomes undone by a simple walk outside!

Brazilian Blowouts and keratin treatments can mend this problem with their shared results of:

  • Reduced blow-drying time
  • Increased shine
  • Removing frizz
  • Smoothing your hair

Such advantages make these treatments good investments by saving you time each day on styling and helping you to look your greatest. After all, you wear your hair every day, so why not give it the opportunity to be its best? The easy decision is to spend just a short time being pampered in the salon chair so the stylist can work their magic. A slightly harder decision is whether to go with the Brazilian Blowout or the keratin treatment, but after a Johnny Rodriguez hair professional advises you on both treatments, the decision should be clear.

If you have colored your hair, you may be wondering whether you can safely get one of these two treatments. Luckily, the answer is yes. Both procedures work on all hair types, including hair that has been color processed. And, since protein is included in both the Brazilian Blowout and keratin treatment, the protein that hair has lost in the past is replenished

Differences Between Brazilian Blowouts and Keratin Treatments

Both of these treatments are so similar in terms of end result that you may wonder whether it matters which one you decide upon. That is exactly the decision that the professionals at Johnny Rodriguez The Salon® are here to help you with. A consultation to examine your strands and make a recommendation ensures that you choose the best procedure for your own hair.

After all, deciding between a keratin treatment vs Brazilian Blowout is merely a matter of deciding something like white wine or red wine. Both are going to help control your strands, so examining the differences helps you to understand why you might pick one over the other.

Different Ingredients

The Brazilan Blowout and the keratin treatment each use different ingredients. That means that there are advantages and disadvantages to both. Keratin treatments use the protein keratin and come under different brand names. This formula has molecules that are tiny enough to penetrate your strands and fortify them from the inside out. When you hear the phrase, “Brazilian Blowout,” you may not realize that this is actually the brand name for a specific treatment with its own specific chemical formulation. The Brazilian Blowout uses a plant-based amino acid to deposit a protein coating on your hair. Its molecules are larger than the keratin molecules.

Brazilians are customizable

A second difference is that the Brazilians are customizable, meaning that they remove the frizz but allow your natural curl or wave to remain. The heaviness of the keratin treatment means that your hair can become heavier, with less of your natural curl or wave remaining. Your stylist will tailor the Brazilian Blowout based upon your particular texture hair to ensure that you get maximum results. By adjusting the temperature of the styling tools while treating your hair, you can decide whether you want your hair to still be curly or whether you would prefer to go with a straighter look. If you want to hold on to your volume, you may tend to prefer the Brazilian Blowout. This is especially true if you have hair that is fine or thin, since you may feel that you can go without the loss of any volume.

Intensity

There is one big difference in terms of the degree of intensity. Keratin treatments offer more smoothing and deep conditioning benefits than the Brazilian Blowout. They generally tend to straighten your hair and reduce the volume of your locks. So, if you are looking to decrease your hair volume and really allow the conditioner to penetrate the strands, you might choose to give the keratin treatment preference.

Treatment Longevity

Third, another difference is that with proper home care, keratin treatments generally last a bit longer. This is due to the formula of smaller molecules in its composition and the fact that they penetrate the hair more fully. They are also slightly more gentle on your hair, potentially making this a better option for someone who uses a blow dryer or hot tools.

Treatment Duration

Fourth, there is a disparity in the time that these treatments take to perform. Brazilians are shorter, usually taking between 1 to 2 hours, while keratin treatments may take 3 hours or even slightly longer. However, this should not be the determining factor in which one you should go with. After all, a difference of a couple of hours in the grand scheme of things will not matter, especially since these treatments can last for several months with proper care!

Finally, although keratin treatments have improved since their early days of having to be vigilant about how you treated your hair for several days after leaving the salon, Brazilian Blowouts allow you to go normally about your day. With a keratin treatment, you should not tie up or clip your hair and also refrain from washing it for several days. Your stylist can best advise you on the post-process home treatment so you can maximize the look of the finished effect.

Both of these procedures offer incredible benefits after a relaxing day in a salon chair. No longer are you constantly trying out the best anti-frizz products you see in beauty stores, using them a couple of times, and discarding them after you are dismayed to determine that they are not very effective. By removing the dreaded frizzies and putting your hair into its finest state, you’re able to look your best with less time taming your hair. And after all, that is what beauty should be all about.

Whether you are unhappy with how thin your hair is or are just wanting to try out a new look, quality hair extensions are a great low-commitment way to do this. However, you may be unsure what would work best on your scalp to give you a gorgeous, natural head of hair. Johnny Rodriguez The Salon provides some information to help you get started so you can be on the road to feeling more confident and beautiful.

What Are the Different Types of Hair Extensions?

When you are craving long, luscious locks and decide that it is time for hair extensions, you have choices to consider with respect to what types of hair extension products you want, such as the method of extension and what materials they are made from. It is important to educate yourself since hair extensions can be a big investment of time and money. After all, you want them to help your hair look stunning at all times.

    Methods of Hair Extensions

Different ways to attach extensions to your hair include methods that give temporary, semi-permanent and permanent results. The most fleeting are clip-in extensions, which can be used on a whim to change your style and do not damage hair. These chunky pieces are easily removed on your own. However, you run the great risk of them looking artificial, versus going to a professional hair extension specialist who blends a different type of attachment flawlessly in with your own hair.

    Semi-permanent, or Tape-in

Semi-permanent, or tape-in extensions, last for a few weeks. With smaller pieces than clip-ins, they can be attached to your own hair with an invisible-looking tape that is practically unnoticeable. You may need to use a special shampoo and other specific products to avoid damaging the tape.

    Permanent

Permanent hair extensions are added all over your scalp in very small quantities and provide the most natural end result. They are attached in various ways, including weaves, micro bonds or micro rings, and fusion or glue-in. The micro bonds or micro rings loop into your own hair before being crimped with a tool. Fusion or glue-in extensions are attached strand-by-strand with keratin bonding that helps them end up flat against the head, creating a completely natural look.

What Are the Types of Hair Extension Materials?

Basically, hair extension products are made from two materials: those that are synthetic or those made from human hair. While they both work to give you increased volume and add length, there are major differences between the two. Your hair extension specialist can help you decide which type and brand are best for you so you end up with quality hair extensions that give you a fabulous appearance.

    Human Hair

Real human hair is just that: hair that has been carefully grown and nourished by a donor person. While the biggest disadvantage of human hair is the higher cost, it is the superior choice for extensions because of it:

    • Feels real since it actually is

    • Blends more naturally with your own hair

    • Gives the appearance of it being your genuine hair

    • Lasts longer than synthetic extensions

    • Is heat-friendly for your styling needs

    Synthetic Hair

Synthetic hair has been made from synthetic fibers to mimic the real thing. The major benefit of synthetic hair is that it costs substantially less than a real human hair. However, that difference comes with a price. While synthetic hair is manufactured to mimic the genuine thing since it is made of plastic fibers it has a very different feeling. It is stiffer to the touch but might be coated with silicone to mimic natural shine. Synthetic extensions often come with a memory that gives a fixed style, although some brands can be heat-styled.

The holiday season is upon us, meaning your calendar is filling up with parties and gatherings. From black-tie affairs to office parties to nights out with your friends, you no doubt have a wide range of great outfits that call for equally stunning coordinating hairstyles. During this busy season, people are snapping photos nonstop, so you want to be sure to look your best at all times. Here are some ideas for how you can get your hair holiday-ready and keep it looking vibrant longer.

    Treat Your Tresses

The first step is to make sure that your hair is in a good place since healthy hair radiates beauty and self-confidence. Be sure that your hair is nourished and that the ends are healthy. Whether you try out a new hairstyle or just want a trim to maintain the shape you are currently happy with, pay a visit to the salon to get a cut at this time. If necessary, treat yourself to a split end treatment to repair damage and prevent future breakage. To make your hair shiny and luscious-looking, indulge in deep conditioning treatment to infuse your hair with moisture.

    Consider Your Color

Along with that cut, it is probably time for a dye job to keep your hair color vibrant. Winter days justify a deeper, richer color than you might wear in the summer, so now is the time to try out that slightly darker hue you may have always wanted. Of course, color techniques like ombre, balayage and baby lights are always in fashion, especially because they often look their best when you showcase them through styles that have tendrils escaping around the face. And, consider getting a gloss for your locks so your shine is apparent in any one of those photos.

    Book Your Blowout

Many women rely on regular blowouts to keep their hair looking polished for several days at a time. A long-lasting blowout done by a professional is more than an indulgence; it can be quite time saving, which is vital at this busy time. And remember – since it is the holiday season, you may want to book several blowouts at once. Just look over your calendar to see when you want to look your best. Talk to your stylist beforehand about whether you want a modern, straight style, or whether you want more classic, bouncy tresses to match that retro dress you are wearing to a holiday cocktail party.

    Contemplate Some Keratin

If your hair can be out of control or is frizzier than you like, it may be time for a keratin treatment. This procedure frees up your time since thereafter your blow-drying takes a fraction of the time it did before. Plus, it leaves you with lovely, smooth locks that can go from day to night, work to a holiday party. Since a keratin treatment seals your cuticles, it helps extend how long your color lasts, too.

    Select Your Style

First, decide what is appropriate for the occasion. Your office party may call for a slightly more restrained hairstyle than the swank black-tie New Year’s Eve affair you have been invited to, and drinks out with the ladies at a trendy new spot may inspire you to try a new ‘do, also. Play around with different styles until you settle on the perfect look for that specific occasion, from:

    • Braids such as fishtail or classic
    • Topknot buns with escaping tendrils
    • Half-up, half-down styles finished with a glittery clip
    • Ponytails that are high or messy

Contact Johnny Rodriguez The Salon Today

When you want your hair to look its best, head to Johnny Rodriguez so you can place your hair in the hands of the best professionals around. TOP FALL HAIR STYLE IDEAS

Summer has come to an end, and while we are missing the longer, lazier days, we are also mourning our pre-summer healthy locks. Chlorine and sun wreak havoc on our hair, so if you are like most people, your tresses are in dire need of some TLC. Now is the time to trim those damaged ends and check out all of the fall haircut styles for women before deciding upon your new look.

New Hair Style Trends & Ideas for Fall / Winter

If you need help choosing a haircut, the highly acclaimed Johnny Rodriguez the SalonTM hair salon in Dallas, TX, has some tips for what you should do with your hair this fall.

    Behold the Blunt Bob

A cute blunt bob is a go-to haircut for this season since it works well as both a professional and fun look. Best of all, cutting your hair into this sleek style gets rid of the damaged lower inches of your hair, giving you fresh and healthy ends. Talk to your stylist about whether you want to go above the chin or just below, based upon the shape of your face and texture of your hair. This look helps show off fall necklaces, scarves, and your beautiful collarbones, too.

    Love Some Lengthy Layers

True Texan women love long, luscious locks. Update them for fall by asking your stylist to cut in some lengthy layers so you can get that volume that is in your regional DNA. Then, decide whether you want a wavy, sleek, or more coiffed blowout before leaving the salon. Once you have this starting point, it is easy at home to control the amount of body on your head with products such as volumizer or mousse so you can really turn it up when you want. Choosing a haircut is easy when there is one such as this that works with all different hair types.

    Beg for Bold Bangs

Bangs are back in town, and whether they are side-swept, blunt, or choppy, women are rocking them all over the place. This is one of the most popular haircut styles for women because cut correctly, they can transform the shape of your face, create volume, and camouflage wrinkles that may be appearing on your forehead. Your trusted hairstylist at Johnny Rodriguez the SalonTM can advise as to what bangs would work best for you, whether your hair is long or short, fine or coarse.

    Practice Makes Pretty Perfect

As much as every woman would love a never-ending series of blowouts so she can have just-left-the-salon hair all the time, it is important to have a few go-to ways to do your hair for when you do not have time to get your professional fix. One of the cutest fall hairstyles is the twisted bun, and all you need is a hair elastic and some hairpins. Smooth your hair and gather into a high, medium, or low ponytail, then twist a section at a time before securing with the pins. Work to find the shape you like, whether smooth and swirled or big and bumpy. This style works best when your hair is in good shape, so be sure that you are up-to-date on any hair treatments like Color Lock & Smooth or Split End Correction.

We've all been there. You planned to save money by doing your own makeup for a wedding or party, but you were less than happy with the end results. These five common makeup mistakes can be easily remedied with a trip to a professional salon when you need to look on point.

    Failing to Prep Skin

Makeup should only be applied to clean, moisturized complexions. When you skip hydration, you can experience flaking, difficulty blending and even oxidized makeup that appears as an unintended color on your skin. For best results, choose a moisturizer that doubles as a primer to keep foundation in place throughout the day. In addition to using a moisturizer with SPF daily and a rich night cream formula, exfoliate your skin at least once a week.

    Improper Blending and Contouring

Improper Blending Contouring fails are a common issue when products designed to highlight certain facial features aren't blended properly, leading to a clear line of demarcation between the foundation, blush, highlighter, and bronzer. A visible cut-off point at the jawline can make the foundation look like a mask, so be sure to blend the shade down to your neck for a more natural appearance. Lighter products such as tinted moisturizers are usually easier to blend than full-coverage foundations.

    Excessive Concealer

Too much concealer has the unfortunate effect of highlighting the features you're trying to downplay. When you use concealer on dark circles, dab just a few dots underneath the affected area and blend upward. For pimples and other blemishes, start with just a thin layer of concealer rather than caking it on. Add setting powder, and then layer more product as needed by adding just a smidge at a time until you've reached the desired level of coverage. Avoid using the same color of concealer for everything. Try yellow-toned formulas to even skin tone, peach formulas for dark circles and green color correctors to take the redness out of pimples. Top the colored concealers with a foundation that matches your skin tone for a seamless effect.

Too Much or Incorrectly Applied Blush

When blush is placed too low on the face, it can create a clownish effect rather than the effortlessly rosy glow that you're trying to achieve. To get it right, smile and apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, then blend toward the temples for just the right touch of natural flush. Avoid bold hues for blush and stick to a shade that closely mirrors the color that appears when you actually have a flushed face. For fair skin, try rosy pinks and peaches. Medium complexions can also get away with mauve. If you have a dark complexion, you'll look beautiful in bronze, berry or even orange blush depending on your undertones.

Using the Wrong Shade of Foundation

Color matching foundation to your skin can be tricky. While working with a professional ensures the perfect hue, try this trick when you're choosing between a few different shades. Apply each color to your jawline, then go out in the sun and look in a mirror to see which looks most natural. Avoid testing shades on the back of your hand, which is usually redder than your face. Don't forget to change your foundation with the seasons, since your skin can be up to four shades darker during the summer months. Finding the right shade of foundation often requires trial and error, so you will likely need to experiment with different products until you find the hue that works best for you.

The fall is a season of newness. With it comes a new school year, a return to a slightly more serious season and a time to start fresh after the lazy, hazy days of summer. With that new start comes a chance to try out some different hair trends in terms of both style and color. Whether you are looking for curly hair color ideas, a subtle touch up or black hair with highlight ideas, here are some tips for this fall's most attractive hair color.

    Dirty Brunettes Have More Fun

If you tend to favor natural hair colors, you may want to try out the dirty brunette. This warm, rich color holds on to the glow of a summer’s night while moving you into the rich shades captured by autumn leaves. It also brightens up the face at a time when summer’s tan is fading. And, this most attractive hair color works with all skin tones since it incorporates both cool and warm tones.

Dirty brunette works well for those seeking different black hair with highlight ideas that will instantly transform locks. By adding highlights in different shades of brown and copper, depth is created, giving your hair the illusion of extra thickness. This color is also the answer for those women wanting fresh curly hair color ideas, since it has the effect of making your corkscrews pop and shimmer.

    Gingers Get All the Attention

Red hair is finally getting the focus it deserves this fall. A new trend is the gorgeous hue of dusty copper since its unique pigment stands out in a crowd. This warm look complements the rich earth tones that make up much of a fall wardrobe and may have many people saying it is the most gorgeous hair color they have ever seen.

Best of all, dusty copper can even be incorporated as highlights in black hair or on blonde hair. Explain to your stylist that you want this hue deposited throughout your head in either a subtle way or in obvious chunkier streaks. Then, when you toss your head in the sun, everyone will think you have the shine of a new penny glimmering through the air.

    Platinum Has Its Perks

If you tend to shy away from the natural look and prefer a bold, in-your-face statement, then platinum may be the right choice for you. This head-turning, eye-popping trend takes the lightest of blonde shades and injects some ice into them. Platinum contrasts deeply with the darker tones of fall to make your head really stand out. Luckily, it looks great with long locks as well as a shorter style.

Since this color requires some serious bleaching, this is a job best left to experienced colorists like those at Johnny Rodriguez The Salon. By minimizing damage and breakage, they can help keep your hair in the best shape possible which allows it to radiate health.

    Pastels Make It a Party

If you like platinum but think it may be too heavy for your personality, why not have some fun with a pastel hue? This popular look adds levity to your style. And, it comes in a variety of shades, which means you can pick the one that most speaks to you.

From peach to blue to pink to purple, a muted pastel shade is sexy and playful at the same time. Bring some photos you love to your stylist so together you can create the perfect pastel palette for your luscious locks.

When you are looking for the best to help with your hair color, contact Johnny Rodriguez The Salon. Summer is here, and new trends are out to keep you cool while still looking your best. Low maintenance hairstyles are key when it comes to styling your hair in the heat. Here are some ideas of summer hairstyles to keep cool and help give some hair inspiration.

    Pigtails and Braids

Especially when you have long hair, it can get pretty warm to have down in the summer. A few trends that have been popping up everywhere you look are pigtails and braids. These styles are perfect for vacation hairstyles because you can throw on a hat without having to take your hair out.

You can do literal pigtail braids, or you can pull some other fun ideas into your pigtails. One adorable idea is bubble braids, where you put your hair into low pigtails and then use small elastics down the pigtail in equal increments. After you are done putting the elastics in, pull the hair out a little bit in each section to get a bubble effect.

Braids and pigtails work best in hair that doesn't have a lot of layering. It's a great time to even out your length when you're in getting your summer haircut so that you can do more styles like these.

    Wispy Bangs

Bangs during the summer look great when cut longer and wispy. They do a great job bringing attention to your eyes and are cool enough to not seem too thick for the winter months.

A fringe bang also looks excellent in the summer. This style looks natural without being too heavy. Parting your hair down the middle and letting your bangs be parted with your hair makes it look subtle and natural.

Bangs look good with short, layered hair and also with long, sleek hair. They are the perfect way to try something new without cutting off a lot of length or changing your look too much.

Clips and Hair Scarves - Fashion Trend and Trending Hair Style in One

One enjoyable new trend is to use clips and hair scarves in your hair when styling. There are a lot of different ways to do this. It's a good way to keep your hair our of your face and off of your neck during the heat.

Hair clips and bows are fun to pull back your hair or bangs and add an accessory to your outfit. You can either part your hair in the middle and put a matching hair clip on each side, or put more of a statement hair clip on one side with your hair parted on the side. Cute hairstyles with bows and clips are really in right now so enjoy adding those little pops of color and bling to your look.

Hair scarves can add a cute flair to your look with just tying it around your ponytail or bun, tying it up like a headband or wrapping it up into your hair with your bun. It adds such a fun pop of color or pattern to your hair.

    Curls Rule in The Heat

What about the girls with the big curls or frizzy hairstyles? Summer is the time to let those curls reign! Using a beach wave product is a great way to help with frizz and keep your curls looking fabulous.

Another important rule of thumb for curly hair is to get the right haircut. When you discuss with your stylist your cut preferences, let them know that you're going to be allowing your hair show off its natural curl and wave this summer. They will have some specific ways to help create the perfect cut for curly hair.

Whether you have your wedding on the horizon or will be attending a loved one’s nuptials, you need that perfect look. Check out these summer wedding hairstyles to see what works best for your locks this upcoming season.

    1. Fishtail Braid

This type of braid is ideal for women with thin, straight hair. It is an incredibly chic look that veers far away from more traditional wedding hairstyles. It looks elaborate but is relatively simple to pull off.

    2. Flower Crown

You will look beautiful with a crown of flowers on your head. You can rock some natural, loose waves along with the crown to attain the perfect bohemian hairdo.

    3. Side Updo

An updo is perfect for any occasion. By setting it to the side, you can put a glamorous variation on a traditional style. This hairstyle looks great with or without a veil.

    4. Curly Updo

There is a lot you can do with an updo. You can keep it in the back while adding some curls. It makes for the ideal finishing touch to any bride or bridesmaid’s look.

    5. Ballerina Bun

If you have seen any ballet, then you have likely seen a high ballerina bun. Hair is kept on top of the head, so there is no worry about loose strands getting in your face. It will keep your hair tidy all day long, which is great if you plan on dancing the night away.

    6.  Ponytail (With a Twist)

You can take a traditional ponytail to the next level by adding some cute curls and twists. With this style, it will ooze with chic appeal. There is the ponytail you wear at the gym, and then there is the ponytail you remember for the rest of your life.

    7. Crystal Headband

You can let your accessories do the talking by wearing a gorgeous crystal headband on the big day. It looks best when you put your hair in a relaxed updo. You can attain maximum beauty with minimal work.

    8. Classic Chignon

For a smooth, sophisticated look, you need to go with the classic chignon. It is a mix between a regular chignon and a French twist. You can even include cute hair accessories into your style that go along with the theme of the wedding. For example, a ribbon with ocean-inspired jewelry would look adorable at a wedding by the beach.

    9.  Sweeping Braid

Braids take a lot of time and effort to get right. However, the result is definitely worth it. You can get a sweeping braid that goes along with some delicate waves to attain a certain softness. It is an elegant look perfect for the most special moments in life.

    10. Waves

When you want to make waves at the reception, you need a hairstyle that will not quit. A wavy, pinned-back aesthetic will make you look gorgeous for hours on end. For this look, you can find inspiration from everyone from Jennifer Lawrence to Blake Lively.

There are plenty of summer wedding hairstyles to choose from. If you’ve got frizzy, unruly hair and find yourself wishing for silky, luscious locks, you’ve probably tried every product under the sun to no avail. Many products on the market advertise frizz-free results; however, the results rarely last. Keratin treatments are safe, effective treatments that strengthen your hair and give you the straight, soft look you crave. As there are several types of keratin hair treatments, let’s take a look at the keratin treatments available.

    Protein for Your Hair

Keratin sounds like a fancy procedure, but at its core, keratin is the main protein that makes up the building blocks of hair. When you get a keratin treatment, you are injecting your hair with additional keratin to help strengthen and smooth it out. There are many different types of products and treatment options, and your stylist can even create special blends specific to your hair.

    Choose Your Preferred Method

When it comes to keratin hair treatments, there are two major avenues you can take. The longest-lasting products contain formaldehyde. However, formaldehyde is a carcinogen, and not everyone wants to be exposed to such an ingredient. New formaldehyde-free treatment options have begun popping up. While they don’t last quite as long as the traditional formaldehyde method, you can still expect anywhere from two to six months of longevity.

Regardless of which type of product works best for you, one thing to keep in mind is that DIY is not the way to go when it comes to keratin treatments. If you want a keratin treatment, it is best to use professional salon services as this is a chemical process and can leave hair prone to breakage.

    Types of Keratin Hair Treatments

As the treatment has grown in popularity, so has the number of treatment options. Keep in mind that your treatment will take roughly three hours at a salon. Below are just a few examples of formaldehyde-free keratin hair treatments:

    • Keratin Complex Treatment
    • Goldwell Kerasilk
    • Cezanne Perfect Finish
    • Trissola Solo
    • Supersilk Smoothing System

    Benefits of Keratin Treatments

When considering keratin, the most important result that clients look for is obtaining a frizz-free mane. This allows you to have smooth, manageable hair with significantly less time dedicated to styling with heated products like flat irons. Less time using heated products can add health to your hair as heated products can leave hair brittle with breakage and split ends.

Additionally, the protein your hair is injected with will give your hair new life and make it look more healthy. This is especially true for clients with aging hair. Infusing hair with keratin protein will help restore its youthful luster.

    Caring for Your Treatment

To maximize the longevity of your treatment, start by skipping the shampoo for three to four days. The same goes for strenuous exercise. The treatment takes little time to work, and the moisture from the shower or your sweat can interfere with the product.

Once it is safe to wash, invest in a good bottle of sodium-sulfate-free shampoo. This will help maintain the integrity of the treatment and ensure that it lasts longer. It is also advisable to wait at least two weeks before treating your hair with color. If properly maintained, your keratin treatment should last between two and six months.

When it comes to eyebrows, bold is in. The latest fashion magazines show models with full brows and well-defined arches. While it is possible to achieve this with pencils, pomades, and powders, the effects are short-term and not always natural-looking. On the other end of the spectrum, tattooed eyebrows may be all too permanent, leaving you with a shape that was once trendy, but has now fallen out of favor. Is there a happy medium?

As it turns out, there is. Microblading has recently garnered attention as an excellent option for people who want bold brows without a lifetime commitment. So how long does the effect last? First, let’s explore the basics.

    What Microblading Is

Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo. It’s made by depositing pigment beneath the skin using a blade or cluster of needles. Unlike a traditional tattoo gun, the blade doesn’t reach the dermis, which is the deeper layer of skin. Instead, it merely scratches the top skin layer, called the epidermis. This is why the pigment fades over time.

There’s also a key difference in technique. Traditional tattooing is usually considered an art form, and the results vary depending on the chosen style. Microblading is all about making your eyebrows appear as natural as possible. The technician makes small, thin lines in the same direction of your actual hairs, creating the illusion of fuller brows. The effect of this technique is why this process is also referred to as “feathering.”

    How the Process Works

Let’s take a look at microblading step by step. First, the technician applies a numbing agent to the area to reduce your discomfort. The numbing process can take up to 40 minutes to complete, which is why the agent is usually applied first thing. While you wait, you and your technician can choose an arch that best matches your desired shape while still looking natural.

Once the numbing agent has taken full effect, the actual microblading can begin. When all the blading is done, a final layer of pigment is applied and allowed to sit for five minutes. Finally, the area is wiped clean, and the session is complete.

    How Long It Lasts

The final effects usually last at least 18 months, though they may last up to 30 months. From then on, you can schedule touch-up sessions every six months to a year. How quickly the pigment fades depends on several factors:

    • Your skin type
    • Your skin care routine
    • Your sun exposure

Oily skin types tend to see more rapid fading, as the oil makes it difficult for the pigment to stay put. Frequent exfoliating can also lead to quicker fading, as it encourages new skin cell growth. Finally, sun exposure can cause fading and should be avoided.

What To Do After Your Session

Proper microblading healing requires that you look after your brows. To ensure the best results, you should do the following:

    • Avoid peels, facials, and Botox for a month
    • Avoid makeup in that area until fully healed
    • No swimming for at least ten days
    • No long showers for at least ten days
    • No sweat-inducing exercise for at least a week
    • Avoid touching your brows
    • Avoid direct sunlight for at least a week

As your brows heal, you’ll notice scabbing. This is perfectly normal and lasts only a short time. After scabbing, your brows may seem to fade, but will eventually return to a fuller appearance. About 6-8 weeks after your first session, you should get a top up to fill in any areas that were missed or where pigment didn’t take.

If you’re looking for “permanent eyebrows near me,” come to Johnny Rodriguez the Salon. We offer premium microblading services administered by highly-trained professionals. For more information or to set up your appointment, contact us at 469-522-3649 or visit our website today!

With summer coming up, it is time to get your look ready for beach trips, music festivals, or jet-setting to your favorite vacation spot. Whatever activities the warm months will be filled with for you, it is time to make heads turn and jaws drop. In other words, it is your time to slay it this summer, and what better way to do so than trying one of the hottest summer haircut styles for 2019?

    1. Medium-Length Cut

Chopping off your hair to stay cool during the dog days of summer may not be your thing. That's OK. Go with a medium-length that gives you the best of two hair worlds. Short enough to keep you cool and long enough to maintain a bit of glam. A layered cut is the key to rockin' this look because it gives you tons of texture, volume, and movement. This style works great for most faces. Plus, it's ideal for thick hair that is stubborn when wanting to tie it away from your face. Enhance this style with highlights or a full-color change.

    2. Textured Pixie

Now, let's flip the script on the classic, refined pixie. One of the summer haircut styles that scream "I'm here, and I'm all that!" is the sassy, textured pixie. There's more length of hair on the top that is manipulated with generous amounts of texture spray. The finished look tells the world your cool, confident, and free-spirited. Plus, you can level up this style with one of our makeover packages.

    3. Blunt Bob

This Blunt Bob is a new twist on a chic hairstyle that has been around since the 1920s. At that time, it was a symbol of rebellious women. Of course, you don't have to be a rebel to sport this above-the-shoulder hairstyle. The precise cut allows your hair to fall in perfect position between your ears and the nape of your neck. You can wear it with either a center or side part. What better way to show off your bone structure? This is the "it" style that keeps your hair looking strong, full, and fresh all summer long.

    4. That 70s Shag

Summertime is all about fun in the sun. Who has time to spend hours fussing over their hair? Wouldn't you rather keep your lifestyle as hassle-free as possible? Go with this retro wash and wear style. It's all about layering and fringes. The soft, loose ends fall an inch or two below the collar bone. You can spice up this haircut with a small, wispy peekaboo bang. Another way to get these luscious locks is with hair extensions.

    5. Summer Undercut

Fellas, we can't forget about you. Want to stay chill this summer without going with a buzz or crew cut? No problem. The summer undercut is one of those summer haircut styles that's non-fussy and flexible. You can dress it up or down for any occasion. You can take it from the beach to the boardroom and back again. It is shaved very low on the sides, with the hair on top long enough to be slicked back or messy. You can go from debonair dude to raucous rockstar anytime you want. No matter which look you go for, you can keep your mane swagged out with V76 by Vaughn haircare products for men.

Amp Up Your Look Near Dallas

Try a new look. Switch things up. Unleash a new you. You can make all that happen with any of the five summer haircut styles mentioned above. Let us help you get one of these IG-worthy hairstyles. The transformation will have you feeling good, looking fabulous, and turning heads all summer long. Contact Johnny Rodriguez the Salon and set up an appointment today!

If you want to change your hair color, style, or length, hair extensions can be a quick and easy solution when placed by a knowledgeable and certified hair extension specialist. Hair extensions are a fun way to try out something new temporarily if you are not sure whether or not you want to commit yet.

Whether you are trying them on for size or they are part of your daily routine, taking care of your hair extensions is essential in ensuring they last. With proper maintenance, you should be able to get several weeks of wear from your extensions.

    Brushing and Detangling

The most essential part of hair extensions care is regularly brushing them. Running over the locks with a simple paddle brush helps keep tangles under control. You may see some light shedding, but this is normal. Don't let it deter you from brushing regularly. To avoid some of the day to day tangling, braid your locks when you are sleeping or exercising.

    Washing

Natural hair requires regular washing as it comes in contact with oil from your scalp. However, because extensions do not touch your skin, there is no oil buildup. Hair extensions only need washing to remove an accumulation of styling products and to keep hydrated.

If the extensions become less manageable, it is a sign that they need to be washed. Avoid products that contain alcohol as alcohol is a drying agent. Wash from the crown down with a high-quality shampoo. Never sleep on wet hair, and if you swim, use a cap to protect your extensions from chemicals in the water. Use hair spray sparingly, because it builds up quickly, can weigh down locks, and dull their shine.

    Conditioning

To condition your hair extensions, you can use a good quality traditional product or a leave-in type. Either way, it is important not to overdo it. Conditioner can build up in your hair, just like other styling products. Therefore, apply the conditioner about halfway down and brush gently. If it is a rinse-out conditioner, leave it in for 10-30 minutes and remove with warm water.

    Drying

While it may be difficult to fit into your daily routine, the best way to dry extensions is to let it happen naturally. Use a towel to dry gently, without rubbing the scalp. If you must use a hair dryer, set it to low heat and use a brush with soft bristles. Extensions can be sensitive to heat, so save the high temperatures for your styling tools.

    See a Professional Regularly

Even with the most careful maintenance, hair extensions need the tender loving care of a professional from time to time. Every five to seven weeks, get in to see a qualified stylist, like the ones at Johnny Rodriguez the Salon, for re-fitting, detangling and restyling. Together, you can keep your extensions looking their best longer.

Get Started with Johnny Rodriguez the Salon

Now that you know how easy it is to care for hair extensions, you can be confident that they are the right addition to your look. The professionals at Johnny Rodriguez the Salon offer hair extensions from Babe; made from 100 percent human hair. Another option is Balmain Paris extensions, available in human hair and memory hair varieties. Memory hair is a synthetic material that can hold your heat-styled look until you're ready to change it. You may be surprised at all the color and style possibilities available to you through hair extensions. Contact us today to learn more!

Does your hair behave the way you want? If you feel like you spend a lengthy amount of time each day trying to tame your hair, it may be time to try something new. The miraculous Brazilian blowout treatment will simplify your daily hair routine and help you look and feel fabulous with a fraction of your previous effort.

A Miracle Treatment for Unruly Hair

When you have problematic hair, it may seem as though each morning is an uphill battle as you try to coax and cajole your hair into submission. The best Brazilian blowout can change your life, so if you feel like your hair is out of control, it is something to consider. Brazilian blowout benefits are numerous for those with wavy, frizzy, curly, or damaged hair.

The magical Brazilian blowout is a procedure that uses a smoothing process to convert your nightmare locks into those with a dream texture. Originally from Brazil, this treatment utilizes an exceptional solution called liquid keratin; made from ingredients like annatto seed, acai berry, and camu camu. The keratin magically seals around each strand of your hair, protecting it from future heat and dryness.

An Easy Procedure With Fabulous Results

This treatment is miraculous and only takes a little bit of time. Your stylist will first carefully apply the keratin to your hair from the roots to the tips. Then, he or she will blow dry and flat iron your head. A thorough rinsing occurs next, followed by a luxurious deep conditioning treatment. One final blow out, and voila, and you are ready to show the world your smooth, frizz-free hair.

The whole process should take about two hours―a significant investment considering a Brazilian blowout typically lasts three to four months at a time. After undergoing the hair treatment, you can still wash and style as normal, but without that dreaded frizz. By giving you an extended just-came-out-of-the-salon look, you do not need to spend hours every day trying to tame your hair. It is truly amazing how one blowout treatment can simplify your hair routine for many weeks to follow.

An Option for Colored or Processed Hair

Sometimes, women are afraid to try a new hair treatment. If their hair is colored, highlighted, or has a permanent wave, they may fear to damage their hair more with a new process. Luckily, this is not the case with a Brazilian blowout. In fact, the treatment essentially improves the health of your hair as it is sealed with a protective coating.

The best part of a Brazillian Blowout is how low-maintenance your hair becomes afterward. While the treatment takes away from the extra pampering efforts each day, there are a few things to consider to maximize the appearance; keep hair away from products and shampoos with chlorine or sulfates.

    A Solution To Try Now

Just because nature gave you frizzy, coarse hair does not mean you have to live with it. If you are looking for the best Brazilian blowout, head straight to Johnny Rodriguez the Salon. Our professional and experienced stylists can help your hair go from frazzled to dazzling, giving you more time to enjoy life. Contact us today to book an appointment for this phenomenal blowout hair treatment!

The best beauty makeover is the one that makes you look and feel like the best version of yourself. Rather than drastically changing your look, enhance your natural beauty with a few tips and tricks.

    Transform Your Makeup

The use of makeup does not always have to include bold, vibrant colors. Many women have mastered the art of subtly applying cosmetics to enhance their natural features.

Sheer foundation or BB creams give the appearance of flawless skin. Contouring helps reshape your features while highlighting the cheekbones, brow bones, and bow of the lip allow light to reflect off your face creating an angelic presentation. Filling in the brows frames the eyes, and mascara makes them pop. Incorporating these steps together present a finished face―all while enhancing your natural beauty.

Though it does take practice to become proficient at these makeup techniques, the help of an expert makes the process that much easier. The professional makeup artists at Johnny Rodriguez The Salon will create the perfect look to highlight your natural beauty, then show you how to recreate it again and again.

    Perfect That Blow-Out

A blow-out is something so simple, yet so vital in enhancing your look. A good blow-out is worth the effort as it shows off your hair at its very best.

To perfect your technique, train with an expert. Whether with Johnny Rodriguez, the master himself, or with one of his excellent team members, you can take a private lesson to learn professional angles and techniques. This allows you to recreate a salon-quality blowout at home in your daily life.

    Alter Your Hair Color

There is a theory that the best hair color for you was the one that you had when you were a child. So, dig through those old photographs and bring a couple of them to your hair stylist. As the right hair color is the one that flatters your skin tone and gives some life to you, going back to your childhood hue keeps the shade natural and helps your skin glow.

Many people find that highlights are a great way to accentuate natural beauty, as they frame the face and give some depth to the hair. Other people choose lowlights as a way to add the appearance of dimension and thickness to their locks. A consultation with one of the colorists at Johnny Rodriguez The Salon can help you decide which look is the best to complement your hair and skin tones.

    Enhance Your Natural Beauty

If you decide that you would like a complete change, why not visit Johnny Rodriguez The Salon for the Lifestyle Makeover? A popular birthday gift, this comprehensive package is a life-changing way to transform your look.

Whether you have a special occasion coming up or want a slight alteration, the specialists at Johnny Rodriguez The Salon can help you with a beauty makeover that highlights your natural beauty. Make an appointment today for a hair or cosmetics makeover so you can find the new you.

Get Your Frizz Under Control with Brazilian Hair Smoothing Techniques

Do you spend lots of money on hair products trying to tame your hair only to have to deal with the same issues the following day? If this sounds familiar, it might be time to try our Brazilian hair smoothing techniques.

    What Does the Treatment Do?

In short, this treatment causes the hair to lay flat, or curl more loosely, and seals the strands of hair so they appear soft and smooth for months at a time. It is not a permanent change, but with proper care, a quality treatment can last anywhere from two to five months. Your results will depend on the natural texture of your hair. Tight curls will loosen. Loose curls or waves will be almost completely flattened by the treatment revealing silky, straight hair.

Why Should I Consider This Treatment?

One of the best things about this treatment, other than the incredible results in taming frizz and smoothing hair, is that it is not permanently damaging to your hair. It is a wonderful alternative to permanent straighteners and home treatments. Treatments you can purchase in a supermarket often last one to two washes and usually cannot offer the same level of smoothness that we can give you with our treatments. Each treatment is customizable for your hair type and desired results.

What Can I Expect When I Come In?

You should allow a generous amount of time when you come in for our Brazilian smoothing treatments. First, we wash your hair to remove product buildup and contaminants. It may take multiple washes for thicker or longer hair. Then, we apply the treatment and let it sit before meticulously sealing it in with a flatiron. The tricky part is letting the hair cure for the next 72 hours since this doesn’t happen in the salon chair. For the Brazilian, you do not have to wait 72 hours, there is no downtime.

    What Do I Do Afterwards?

For the first 72 hours, you must be careful not to bend or style your hair. After those hours pass, you can treat your hair as normal. However, you must use a sulfate free shampoo if you want the results to last.

Let Johnny Rodriguez The Salon Care for You

Johnny Rodriguez the Salon is the perfect place to get a Brazilian hair treatment. Our experienced stylists know how to make clients feel and look their best. Don’t go another day dealing with frizz. Book your appointment at Johnny Rodriguez the Salon today.

You may be familiar with Keratin as a specific kind of protein that builds your skin, hair, and nails. Keratin is one of the body’s protectors as it doesn’t tear or scratch as easily as other cells. Many people believe that taking Keratin supplements or getting Keratin hair treatments can keep your locks healthier and stronger. After all, Keratin makes up the building blocks of the strands in their natural state.

    What Is Keratin Hair Treatment?

A Keratin treatment is semi-permanent and lasts up to five months. While it’s an appealing option for anyone who wants smoother, more manageable hair, if you have curly, coarse, or unruly tresses, you may find a Keratin treatment to be a godsend. Those who believe in Keratin treatments report that their hair is smoother and easier to style with less frizz. Treating your hair with Keratin takes different forms. The most effective is the one you get in a salon. This is an intensive, multi-step process that takes time. A third way to infuse your hair with Keratin is through the use of supplements. You can get these at most health food stores in powder or pill form. Be cautious however because overuse of Keratin supplements can cause a buildup of too much protein in your body.

    Keratin Hair Treatment Near Me

If you’d like to know more about Keratin hair treatments and how they might help you manage your tresses, contact Johnny Rodriguez The Salon. We’ll be glad to help you with this, a new cut or color, and any other needs you may have for your hair.

Why spend time wondering what it would be like to have the long, luxurious hair that you want when there is an easy way to get it. Visit Johnny Rodriguez the Salon to learn the many ways that hair extensions can give you the look you desire. For extensions to look natural and cohesively blend in with your hair, it is essential to consult a creative and experienced stylist regarding your options. He or she will skillfully attach the appropriate extensions, showing you the different ways to style them. Here are some examples of the various looks you can flaunt with your hair extensions:

    1. Luscious Length

To accomplish a va-va-voom look with hair extensions, apply mousse to your hair before blowing it out. Then, use a curling iron or wand to create soft waves. Depending on whether you keep the curls symmetrical or vary the placement of the wand, this look can end up either luscious and glamorous or pretty and beachy.

    2. Flirty Braids

With the help of extensions, your hair will no longer be too thin to put different kinds of braids in. Instead, your hair will have the extra thickness that it needs to pull off any type of braid you choose, whether it be a fishtail, rope, waterfall, or halo braid.

    3. Pouting Ponytail

Just like with braids, creating the perfect high ponytail requires a certain amount of hair to perfectly pull off. With professionally applied extensions, your admirers will not be able to tell that your luscious pony is not your own. Be sure to brush enough before securing your hair up high so your style will be perfectly sleek.

    4. Messy Buns

Hair extensions give you the ideal amount of hair for a perfectly constructed voluminous, messy bun. Simply gather your hair into a ponytail and secure with a band, then pile your hair up high, pulling it through the band to secure. With the added volume and length, you can pull a couple strands of hair out on each side to perfect the finished messy look.

    5. Professional Low Bun

A professional low bun is an easy option for a more serious and chic look. To create this style, make a low side part and then brush the hair into a sleek low ponytail. Carefully wind the ponytail into a twist or knot and fasten it at the nape of your neck with bobby pins.

    6. Half Up Half Down

To make your extensions last, you want to take the best possible care of them―including days of rest from heat styling. A half up half down look is perfect a day or two after curling your hair as a bit of relaxation in the waves makes them look effortless and dreamy. To create this look, make a horizontal part from ear to ear, then take the top level of hair up into a small ponytail and secure it with a band. Then fluff out the hair below to complete the look.

We’ve all tried it once or twice in our lives. We’re short on cash or don’t have time so we decide on a whim to color our own hair. The problem is it doesn’t always go as planned. When you experience a DIY hair color disaster, color correction is a necessity.

    Hair Color Gone Wrong

It’s always your best bet to have a professional colorist do your hair color because of some common mistakes people make when doing it themselves. Temporary hair color DIY goes wrong when:

    • You think the color on the box is the color you’ll end up with.
    • You lather the color over your whole head for the entire processing time.
    • You don’t treat your hair properly after coloring.

    DIY vs. Professional Hair Salon

When you compare a professional hair salon to your DIY method, you’ll notice some real differences. At a hair salon, the professionals know:

    • The color you end up with depends on the different tones already in your hair. Natural color and previously treated hair color will affect the outcome of your dye.
    • Processing time is different for different sections of your hair. The roots will need a longer time to process than the ends.
    • You need to properly treat your hair with sulfate-free hair products and cooler water when you shampoo. You may also need to return to the salon a few weeks later for a base break.

    How to Color Correct Hair

The best way to color correct your hair is to get in touch with our professional colorists. We have seen it all and know how to fix your DIY hair color gone wrong. Corrective coloring is hardly ever a quick fix. You may be in the salon for a longer period of time and could come back for a second appointment. We recommend a consultation before your appointment so we can see how your hair reacts to a couple of different corrective products. After seeing the results, we can decide together which product will be best to correct the color while keeping in line with the health of your hair. There are some products we can use that don’t involve bleach, but depending on the damage and color outcome, we may have to resort to bleach.

    Contact a Hair Color Professional

If you made the decision to color your own hair and need a color correction from the professionals, contact Johnny Rodriguez The Salon. We also do hair extensions, cuts, styling and much more. Visit us in Legacy West or Dallas today.

    Updated: March 20, 2024

If you are like most of us, you will be photographed on your wedding day more than any other day of your life. Taking some time to plan your makeup before the big day can ensure your look is flawless. Here are some bridal makeup tips to help you enjoy the spotlight and look beautiful.

    Create the Perfect Canvas

Before applying other cosmetics, take a few moments to prepare your skin:

    • Allow your moisturizer to fully penetrate the skin before going to the next step.
    • Apply a thin layer of primer to your face, neck, and eyes. It can serve as a temporary corrector, blurring fine lines and giving your skin a radiant base for makeup.
    • Use a foundation that matches your skin type and tone.

    Brow Power

A sculpted brow and well-placed arch frames your eyes and brightens your face. The most natural looking shape fans at the start of the brow lays straight across the brow bone then arches and lifts just past the mid-point. The outside edge should fan out towards the temple, not down. Apply a waterproof gel for a perfectly sculpted look.

    Luscious Lips

Use a lip stain instead of regular lipstick for a waterproof and smudge-proof formula that lasts through the kisses, champagne sips and the wedding feast with no fuss. Red carpet celebrities from Angelina Jolie to Frances Bean Cobain rely on it to make their lips look full and smooth. Prepare your lips to get the maximum benefit. Use a lip scrub or toothbrush in soft circular motion for a few seconds to gently buff away any dead skin cells. Pat your lips dry with a soft towel, apply a thin coat of lip balm and let it soak in for one to ten minutes. Wipe off any excess balm, then apply the stain.

    Lash it Up

Long lashes help your eye color pop and look fantastic in photos. Use a primer to help mascara last longer and minimize flaking or smudging. Remember to choose a waterproof formula to keep them picture perfect.

    • Follow Rihanna’s lead with fluttery lashes under sculpted brows and minimal makeup for a glamorous take on au naturel. Brush the top of your lashes with an eyelash comb after each coat of mascara to achieve feathery, flirty lashes.
    • Beyoncé added a classic touch with thick, long lashes paired with a smoky eye for her wedding. Wiggle the mascara wand, starting at the base of your lashes to coat every lash for the biggest impact.

    Schedule an Appointment Today

If you’ve set a date, contact us to schedule a pre-wedding consult or make an appointment to have your bridal makeup done. Our makeup artists and stylists will discuss your vision and take your personal style and wedding location into consideration to create your perfect bridal

    |Updated December 4, 2023|
With 2019 right around the corner, it is time to start making those New Year’s resolutions. No matter what you want to accomplish in the upcoming year, you should do it with
a rocking new hairstyle that perfectly captures your personality. Here are some of the most popular hairstyles you will see today that are bound to make big waves in 2019 and beyond.

    Bob Hair Cut

    1. Angular Bobs

The bob was popular in the 1990s, and it is set to come back in a big way. The hairstyle’s resurgence can be traced back to Kylie Jenner rocking it this past year. She chopped off her locks and sported significantly shorter hair complete with platinum blonde dying. Tessa Thompson showed off a similar haircut in the popular film “Sorry to Bother You.” It is much less hair to have to deal with, which is why many ladies are scheduling their appointments now.

    2. Face-Framing Layers

Another sign that the 90’s are back is the fact more celebrities have been spotted with face-framing layers. This trend utilizes choppier, thicker chunks of hair your stylist will use to literally frame your face. Since everyone’s facial shape is different, you want to make sure you come to us for this work. We take into account these tiny details that add up into a big difference with how your hair and face interact with one another.

    3. Choppy Crops

Lately, you may have seen Kate Hudson showing off a choppier type of haircut. It is shorter, but it still gives you plenty of options to play with. One day, you can wear it textured, and the next you can have it slick. It is almost like getting two different hairstyles in one.

    4. Finger Waves

You can unleash your inner flapper girl with a finger wave. It is perfect if you want to be reminiscent of the 1920’s and 30’s. You may have seen Missy Elliott rocking this hairstyle back in the day, but it has really branched out this last year. Yara Shahidi and Greta Gerwig have gotten onboard this trend. Finger waves basically consist of curling the framing layers using a wand and then using duckbill clips to pin the waves against your head. You may not even need clips if you can use your fingers to create that retro effect.

    5. High Ponytails

High ponytails are back in a big way. This was another hairstyle trend that was big in the 90’s and has now seen a resurgence, particularly with millennials who did not get a chance to rock one back then. Bella Hadid was seen wearing one with a scrunchie, and it was a big hit. Perhaps no celebrity is better known for her high ponytail than Ariana Grande. It is rare to see her walk down a red carpet without one.

    6. Floral Accents

It can be Coachella every day when you adorn your locks with beautiful flowers. Many women are worried about looking like a garden nymph with this look, but the truth is you can rock it for numerous occasions without it being too much. A few floral accents, such as what we have seen on Evan Rachel Wood and Jasmine Sanders, is all you need. A few small rosebuds held into place with a bobby pin or held together on a braid can be just what you need to make a stellar first impression.

    Messy Bun Hairstyle

    7. Messy Bun

In the spring and summer of 2019, we fully expect to see a lot of women coming in asking for messier buns. This is one of many new haircut styles that has grown in prominence recently thanks to the royal family. Megan Markle was recently seen with this look at Wimbledon, and a lot of ladies loved it. It produces a soft look that works great with all kinds of face shapes.

    8. Long 60s Inspired Fringe

Another sign the 60s are back is the presence of more women sporting long hair that has an inspired fringe quality to it. Gigi Hadid once again was seen rocking this look, and it will be very popular in the upcoming year because it creates a flattering look. It is also good for when you need to quickly swipe your hair to the side.

    9. Top Knots

Hailee Steinfeld, Zendaya and Rihanna have all been seen with top knots, and it is easy to see why. When it starts getting hot outside, most women will want their hair out of their face. It is simple but effective, and we predict you will see it often in the summer of 2019. Anyone who wants one of these hairstyles before the start of the new year needs to visit Johnny Rodriguez The Salon. Contact us to fall in love with your hair all over again, and you will be able to go into 2019 with a fabulous new look.
